3 Reviews of the Epic 600 Air

By: Snacka  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2015   Rating:

Used this tent at most 10 times over 3 years.

First time we used it, it rained and the arches collapsed. The inside hot wet and at 3 in the morning wet sleeping bags are no fun. That was not the only time that happened.

We had 2 bladders burst when inflating the tent. After paying £600+ for the tent I then had to pay £62 to replace 2 burst bladders

Customer service is shocking. Staff are rude.

Due to several design faults the tent struggled to to stay upright in the slightest of wind. The tent does not have a front guying point or a front to back air tube or spine so the slightest breeze against the front panel caused the first 2 tubes to collapse inwards. During the 2 week Cornwall holiday we had to get used to the tent collapsing onto us day and night. The tent leaked down the tubes forming pools of water inside by each tube. We complained to the retailer who refunded immediately and I asked about other returns of this model and he said that a few had been returned for several reasons. I now have the airgo nimbus 8 which stands upto wind no problems due to having a central spine and basically a better tent. I would not recommend this tent at all as it actually ruined our holiday.

Just returned from our first holiday (2 weeks in France) with our new air beam epic 600.

Whilst it is a decent tent, I am slightly disappointed given that it was a £700+ spend.

My key reason to mark down was our partial collapse under heavy rain. We woke to find the two front beams collapsed and water inside the tent (from access points to inflation tubes). I can only assume that the heavy rain pooled and weighed the tent down to the point of collapse.

Whilst this was potentially contributed to by us having the internal partial half open, and therefore pulling on the beam, I would not expect it to collapse. We survived other wet nights (keeping the door fully open or closed), but the tent made small amounts of water. I think this was caused by pooling water on the ceiling causing moisture/condensation to leak through.

Next time round we will make sure that the beams are pulled as far apart as possible to ensure that the roof is pulled taught. I am also exploring what the storm beams do.

Not surprisingly, the tent is a hefty piece of canvass to pack away. We did it, but it seems far greater in size than our Vango icarus 500 + canopy (previous tent), but only offers a minimal amount of extra space.

Of course, the ease of pitching and taking down was a huge benefit. Air beams are super easy and quick. Not feeding poles through or taking them out is great!
