5 Reviews of the Palace
By: Skipp66 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2004 Rating:
This is a very big tent! But it's great once it's up, we used it for a week in Cornwall which had everything! Heavy rain, high winds and hot sunshine.
It didn't leak or move in the bad weather and was cool in the heat, can't fault it at all.
I have owned some top of the range 'plastic' tents from Outwell and Vango and the palace beats them hands down.
The only downside is the weight, it's very heavy, 50KG and it is a 2 person job to put it up but once it's up its stays up!
If you have a big car or a trailer I would recommend the big older style frame tent, they are so much nicer than the newer stuff on the market, although the Outwell polly cotton tents look good.

THIS IS A MONSTER.
Fed up with humdrum 'lightweight' tents that wobble like jelly we purchased this fantastic tent, its stable as a rock and the cotton canvas keep the tent cool in the summer and retains the heat in the night (from our 1KW heater)
Many times we have been asked 'that's a nice trailer tent' its not and we are always met with shock.
We have had this tent for five years now and it still looks as good as the first day we bought it, the living area is HUGE we have plenty of room for three wardrobes table and three camping chars and there is still plenty of room for more.
One nice touch is the curtains, this will see us over many many future trips.
If you get the chance to get one off ebay GET IT.

This is the first 'proper' tent I have bought and got it for £150 of eBay from someone who had never used it, and so it was in mint condition. I have used it 3 times now and I honestly dont feel like using anything else. It has become like a part of the family. I love it. My wife and I can easily put it up between the two of us. I dont bother using the guy ropes once its erect, it doesn't seem to need them. The three bedrooms are great for 4 not so for 6. The two outer bedrooms are 1.4 m wide which I feel is generous enough for one person but not for two and so our two children have one each and my wife and I share the middle bedroom.
The living area is HUGE! and when it rains it is such a bonus to have a large enough area to be comfortable in. Of course it is heavy to transport and so not really a weekend tent, but for longer stays its fantastic. Recently spent a week in it where it rained every day and never saw any leaks at all.
I would like to see if I can get hold of the sun canopy extension for it, or buy it some other treat.
A truly great tent and I hope to use it for many years to come.

Seems frame tents are falling out of fashion, however you cannot beat a good one. I have owned the SunnCamp Palace SE (in blue/grey) for a couple of years now, and its a monster of a tent.
Previously I had a SunnCamp Continental 6, which again provided years of great service and so I knew what wanted and the Palace did not disappoint. The frame is substantial and well made. It assembles positively and is possible to put up with just a two of you with little effort, although don't expect to do this too quickly due to the size of it!
It feels light and airy, and in my opinion will not age quickly with the choice of colour scheme.
Once assembled you are struck by its size. The version I have includes the sun canopy which when assembled extends the tent further. You could get lost in this thing!
Other nice touches are the roof lining which hides the frame and adds to the appearance, the new design of cooking area (compared to the continental 6) which is held by the frame in its own right not guys from the outside, and so no risk of collapse in strong winds/broken guys)
I can't fault this tent, if anything for us its a bit too big, but for a family it would be fantastic.

Blimey, this tent is huge.
We have just bought this thing to replace a Lichfield Vermont 6DL, and whilst the Vermont was adequate for the three of us, this thing is soooooo much better!
The bedrooms are fairly small. We have easy-fold camp beds, and we can only get two into the middle compartment, but that is no real problem - two in the middle, one or the right and the compartment on the left is used as a 'dressing Room' with our wardrobe and clothes rail. I would immagine that if you put three double airbeds in this tent, you would curse not having anywhere to hang your clothes?.But would you? Sunncamp have cunningly put a hanging space between two of the bedroom compartments. True you can't reach the clothes which have slid down to the back of the tent, but a stick with a hook would sort that out!
The thing that impresses about this tent, is the living area. It is huge! we went to a wedding where the marquee was not as big as this (slight exegeration) We have a lot of equipment in our tent, including two two tables, five chairs and two blow-up settees, and this thing just swallowed it up. You could stage a table tennis game in here, and still have space for a few spectators!
Another thing which is really nice about this tent, is implied by the name of the manufacturer. There are windows (with curtains) on all three sides of the living area, which add to the feeling of space. When the sun comes out, this thing lights up!
For just the three of us, this thing may seem to some as being too big, but we relish the luxury of being able to spread out. We just love this tent.

Three separate, extra width inner tents provide the sleeping accommodation and there is a wardrobe area between two of them. A large extended kitchen area enhances the already large living space and a full roof lining finishes the interior.
