1 Reviews of the Pitchmaster 600
By: DIANE.D Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2012 Rating:
Purchased this tent last week and took it for a test run at one of our local ccc campsites. Unfortunately we couldnt find any demonstration dvds to show us how to put it up, but we managed. It took 2 of us one and a half hours to set it up. That included undoing all the guy ropes that were very tightly bound together! The instructions tell you to insert all the poles then erect from back to front. We found that erecting it with all the poles in made it very heavy to lift each section, as you were taking the weight of the remaining tent and poles whilst trying to put the first one up. I think next weekend when we go out again we are going to put the back poles in, pin and guy the back of the tent and insert the poles one at a time and see if that makes it a bit easier. As with all new tents I am sure we will get quicker the more times we go out.
As for the tent. Its extremely large and spacious and certainly looks impressive when up. The two separate areas inside are a definite bonus, and both are more spacious than I envisaged. Its like having a living room and a dining room! You can just fit a double airbed in the sleeping areas, but the campbeds we have for the kids are a bit too wide to both go in one. The only downside to this tent that we can think of is the fact that the front door doesn't zip at the bottom, it just has a few pieces of velcro on it and it doesn't have a flyscreen either, which we found strange, as the other two doors it has both have flyscreens that zip all the way round (the outer doors of them still don't zip at the bottom) we are going to try and use one of the side doors as the main door in colder weather and see if this makes a difference. The porch is huge and has more than enough space for your cooking equipment.
All in all we are very happy with the tent, having taken a risk and buying it blind, as we couldnt find any centres that had one on display, probably due to its size. We bought it to replace our Coleman evolva. Which I still love because I can put that one up on my own and it has such versatility, but the steel poles have definitely won me over for their stability in windy weather, having got caught out last year camping alone with the kids in gale force winds with the evolva getting blown about like we were inside a carrier bag! The doors are the only reason I marked it down, but I'm sure we will get used to it. Overall if you have a large family, or just like a tent with lots of space then I can certainly recommend the Pitchmaster 600.
