8 Reviews of the Tesco 6 Person Vis a Vis

We bought this tent for a bargain £15. This I feel was due to the fact that one of the anchor points had been missed? Yes the points made in other reviews are valid, but it was a bargain and we didn;t know if we would take to camping. We spent 2 nights out, there was strong wind and some rain and the days were very hot. The tent survived, stayed up, kept us dry and stored all our stuff safely. Airbeds for 3 is a squeeze in one bedroom, but we managed! We will only ever be fair weather campers and only for short breaks so I hope this tent will last a while. If not, it was only £15 and a bargain.

It does what it says on the tin, this tent has been used 3 x times and yes the lining on the mesh snags and has small holes, get some decent screw in pegs and you are good to go for cheap tenting, if you want a better tent, pay more money, but good enough for a small family tent and for a season. The pegs are not too good as the others say, not used it in heavy rain yet and I don't expect it to stand up though.

My friend and I have recently returned from our first camping expedition in the lake district. We purchased and used the advertised vis a vis 6 man dome available to buy in a well known superstore (Tesco) for a price of around £80

Having never been camping together before we decided to take a step into the unknown, take the bull by the horns and try for a 4 night stay in the heart of the lake district.

So, tent in boot and cool box in care we set on our way to a site around 5 miles from cockermouth. Arriving at the site at around 12 o'clock we set to work in the mid day heat putting our tent up for the first time. With beer in hand and sun on our backs we successfully assembled our portable living quarters to which would be our home for the next four nights.

Everything went well, and we were extremely pleased with the overall product which took about half hr to assemble fully. With 2 well sized separate bed areas and a wealthy living space in the centre we took no time at all fixing up our portable 15' flat screen tv and Xbox 360 to keep us occupied on our trip! Both bed areas could suitably accommodate up to 2 fully grown adults in comfort, both come equipped with fly sheet and outer shell, perfect for ventilation in the warms climes. Apart from the small tear in 1 fly sheet everything was excellent. The colour is lovely but attracts insects like honey to a bee. This wasn't an issue as we pre prepped and equipped ourselves with some budget fly spray and a newspaper.

After a lovely 4 days we successfully collapsed our portable palace and with no trouble at all managed to pack it all back in it's adorable, well sized carrying bag. It really is a perfect product!

The tent successfully shrugged off the glorious lake district rain with ease, at times it was a little flappy in the strong north westerly wind but survived no problem and was a joy to reside in. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we plan on using it again in yet another wonderful adventure.

You can't expected bricks and mortar for as little as 80 quid but if you are after a well sized spacious 6 (4) man tent then this is for you, even the pegs survived well in hard foundations on the hArd standing pitch offered by the site. The only downside was that the central ground sheet was detached from all other internal portals but that was no problem as again, we planned well for such events. 8 out of 10 and excellent purchase.

For the price (I paid £30) you cannot quibble. Its not a mountaineering tent, nor is it suited to monsoon rains but it offers a comfortable amount of sleeping space for our family of 4 plus plenty of storage for chairs etc. The reality is if you pay supermarket prices you are not going to get a quality tent but this fulfills the twin criteria of being big enough for our family and not something we will worry about as it will principally be used for festivals. Drawbacks are its heavy (compared to our 4 man hike tent), the bag is too small to get the tent into in a field (take a bin bag) and its doesn't have a solid inner tent. We have fixed extra guide ropes and sprayed it for extra waterproofing, but so far so good. The reality is for camping in more exposed areas you need a proper tent - and for a 2 bedroom they are around £500, this sort of tent is more suited to flat sheltered spots. Hope this helps and puts it into perspective

We were given this tent as our 10 berth is too big for overnight and the 4 berth is too small for all 5 of us.

Understand now why it was given away, but it did it's job and saved us a night at a hotel.

It did stand up to some strong winds, but had been very worried all night.

The inner zips were crap, with the netting on a separate zip so you either had a closed door or a netted door.

The windows on the outside opened up with a zip so you could see directly into the sleeping compartments, not what we'd like in a tent.

It wasn't easy to pack away either and we are seasoned campers. It was the folding to get it back in it's bag. The poles didn't have a separate bag, and the pegs were of the worst quality we'd ever seen.

The sleeping areas are not exactly 3 berth each and we could only get 2 people in each of them forcing OH out into the main area on a groundsheet

This is certainly a fine weather tent but it can be used again but think we'll still keep our 4 berth as back up.

We got this Tesco tent for free using their Clubcard Deals, it would have been £150, currently selling at £75 (April 2011).

We had decided to have a 2nd smaller tent for 4 of us (2 Adults, 2 Children) and this 6 person tent seemed ideal, however it was a bad decision.

It is fairly easy to put up, taking around 25 mins using just 4 poles, which are colour coded. However we found that ours was badly manufactured as the pins the poles go into were situated in the wrong position on 3 corners. This meant that the rings were the poles and straps meet were all twisted. The ground sheet, which only covers the square area between the 2 bedrooms doesn't fit properly, it was too small to even reach from door to door and there were hooks only on 3 sides.

We did like the idea of the bedroom doors having a zipped fly net in addition to the zipped door, however on both bedroom doors the stitching was so bad that the fly net had holes around the zips when it was taken out of the packet, and after using for 3 nights, they developed into palm sized holes thus rendering the fly net useless even with taking great care when zipping. It look terrible and I would imagine that this wouldn't last a full season.

The bedrooms caused a problem for us with children as they only have material on 3 sides, with one side being only mesh, which is great for ventilation but a design fault with the tent when it comes to privacy. The side that is all mesh is against the tent where lies a large window opening, which opens from outside. The person asleep or getting changed in that bedroom is not able to prevent anyone from opening that window. Also, the material used on the two bedrooms is so poor it is almost completely see through.

Although the tent is 2m in the middle we found it a problem to have the door opened as the poles that keep the door opened are only 1.4m high, for some stupid reason. This meant ducking each time to get in and out of the tent, so it was easier just to roll the door entrance up.

Although it didn't rain, the tent did condensate very easily, and with an HH of only 1500mm we found it was not suitable even on a very warm 4 day camping trip. Due to its bad design, the mesh panel of the bedroom, mentioned above was the side that faced the outer part of the tent, so with the condensation on the tent and a slight wind, all the moisture just dripped straight into the bedrooms and worst of all the beds inside them.

All in all, this is a terrible tent and I would not recommend anyone to buy one. Even though ours was free, (rrp £150) I intend to return it to Tesco. I wouldn't consider using it again even for a 1 night stay. We will use our larger, older tent for the foreseeable future!

We bought this tent on the half price offer, we used it once for 3 days in North Wales. The weather was not that good, dry but windy, not severe gales, but a brisk wind. We to struggled to put the tent up,but eventually we managed. This was when the first problem occurred as the tent poles started to bend, and the tent blew nearly flat. We returned from a quick shopping trip to find the door had blown open, we pegged it down from then on,and a curious bulge on one side of the tent. Further examination discovered, that one of the poles had snapped completely and the one next to it had splintered and was ready to snap. We sent it back and got a refund. It didn't even manage two hours, I cant comment on the water resistance of the tent as we had no rain. I would say overall poorly made, as we had some trouble with the zips not staying closed, and feeling stiff to fasten and unfasten. Overall,we were very disappointed with this tent. This trip was Apr/May 2010.

This was our first tent & seemed like a bargain at the half price offer of £60. Glad I didn't pay full price. The fly sheet only lasted 3 days before the seams started failing. They had not been stitched properly. This was after use in fairly normal weather conditions for the UK. A bit of a breeze & a little rain. The inner zips are doubtful too, I don't think they would last long either as they kept snagging & didn't run freely. It was short of a couple of guy lines too. It is easy the put up but the instructions are not clear. First time we set it up we had help from friends with camping experience, we'd have struggled otherwise. Once you know what you're doing it is straight forward.

Wasn't expecting too much from this tent, due to its' cheap price. I thought we would get 1x season out of it to be realistic. Overall. Not good not impressed, it's going back for a refund!

Having now had a look at other tents, it is a case of you get what you pay for & it's worth paying a bit more for a decent product.
