2 Reviews of the AirBeam Exclusive Front Awning
By: Taafe75 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2017 Rating:
So the very negative review below was for the older version of the extension that only zipped across the top of the tent.
I have the later 2017 version that fully zips to the tent.
Before buying the front awning I used to use the sun canopy but I think the sun canopy will only be used now in very hot weather and the awning is so much better especially in the not so great weather you get in the UK.
My main issues with it would be the windows are on toggles rather than zips, there is no Sky track on the extra beam and there are no toggles to half tie back the door, the entire awning a bit cheap really in its finishes, that being said, I love it

I purchased one of these from the NEC via PJ Outdoors AKA PJ Camping. I used this tent extension for the first time this summer (July 16).
The extension is absolutely fantastic, apart from 3 points of which I will come onto later. It offers the thicker blue 150 denier fabric, great panoramic windows and even the wonderful patented storm straps for higher winds. The extension is rather pricey at £290, and you would expect to have the best quality product for this money. The extension zips at the top onto the tent and overlaps at the sides by around a couple of inches. The main big door will roll up and can be toggled open OR you can buy some poles and make a small canopy with the metal eyelets at the bottom of the door.
Now for the negative points.
1) Groundsheet is the wrong size for the awning
2) If it’s raining, the sloped door means when you open is, water will fall off the extension onto the carpet/groundsheet. Mine was fixed to an edoras 600xl, and the only other entrance was the side door, but being a tunnel tent, you can’t use the side door when raining for the same reason; water runs down the side and into the tent.
3) The design of the tent extension, specifically where it joins the tent is flawed. I had water constantly dripping into the extension of which got me and my belongings wet.
Currently PJ Outdoors is being extremely difficult stating that Vango acknowledges that extensions will leak when connected with a tent and as a consumer, I should expect this.
Conclusion, quite simply, if you are not bothered about water ingress due to the design flaw, then this is a wonderful good looking extension.
