4 Reviews of the Beta 450 XL
By: L.daniel Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2015 Rating:
The tent is lightweight and easy enough to put up. We have been camping for 26+ years and have found this to be the most leak free tent we have owned. However, last year one of the poles split slightly, and this year in very high winds in wales, another pole bent and split, the tent wobbled about like a massive jelly, and the straps inside which give support to the frame, ripped the tab right off from the interior ceiling area. We had to go home a day or so early from our trip. The bedroom is really spacious, you could keep other stuff in there that you would normally leave in the living area. Living area great for 2 people if cold or bad weather, but not, I think, roomy for more than 2 people for any length of time. The other thing is that in really windy weather the flapping and snapping of the tent fabric is really annoyingly noisy at night. Even when pegged out well.

Used twice recently. Easy to pitch for relative novices. Stood up well to 30mph winds and heavy rain. The door opening design does tend to allow water to run in from roof when door is unzipped; apart from that no water ingress or leaks. Plenty of room for 2 people to sit comfortably in porch with doors zipped closed in bad weather. Not sure how this would work for 4 people though.

Good size, poor visibility through windows, door opening and closing in wet weather not good as all the water beads off in to the tent. Bedroom good size for 2 people and a dog. Not great in high winds, the front buckled and tent pole split so had to use bricks to keep out the wind. During high winds rain penetrates the door zips .

The description is fully sewn in groundsheet but it is sort of a hybrid that clips inside an overlap of about 6 inches around the perimeter of the flysheet. Useful for rolling back a portion of the groundsheet to set up the stove inside on windy days (with the door open!). Simple and effective design.
To give a rough idea of how easy this tent is to pitch, our first time camping with this tent was so poorly organised that by the time we found a good spot to camp it was already dark. I managed to pitch this tent almost single handedly in the dark within 15 minutes. I had a little assistance feeding the poles through and my daughter had a small flashlight which was all but useless yet sufficient light to see the colour coded pole sleeves.
All in all very happy with the performance for the price we paid, there were very strong winds on the moors that night and the tent never faltered, despite me missing some of the guy lines when pitching it.
The diagonal straps inside really work great with regards to stability.
9/10 purely because the porch had a slight draught where the door zips met (as I mentioned though, it really was blowing a gale) and also because the fixing for tying back the curtain is a slip of fabric with a hole punched in it whereas the rest of the tent had good quality sturdy toggles and loops.
Really minor things admittedly.
