1 Reviews of the Carrera 600
By: Feecamp Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2009 Rating:
What a great tent! Really glad of the slightly cooling effect of the polycotton in the recent heatwave - it was still hot but not unbearable as we've previously seen with polyester.
It's understandably relatively heavy with 26.95kg for the flysheet and inners, and 7.30kg for the powerlite alloy poles.
The poles are elastic-corded together and lock into place quite securely. Our only problem with them was in trying to make sure the curve went the same way right through - we ended up pitched with a bit of a kink in one as the end pole was slightly mis-aligned to its neighbour. It didn't affect the flysheet or the tent's stability but it annoyed us that, once the tent was up, there was no way we could fix it.
Overall, we love the Carrera and would highly recommend it. There's just the two of us and two dogs but we do a lot of walking and like our comfort at camp so don't travel light, hence the need for space.
There were a couple of minor design issues that caused us not to give the Carrera 10/10:
There's no way to open the side door to leave just the no-see-um netting without having to go outside to unzip the outer door - we could do this in our Vango Diablo several years ago.
Only the one door has any bug protection - opening the side door with the provision for king poles means anyone can see in and insects can fly in.
King poles are supplied but we couldn't find any spare guy ropes with which to hold them up.
The connectors holding the inners to the SIG are very fiddly, especially those in the dark corners. They could easily be made a little chunkier for ease of use.
The optional bedroom inner for the front didn't seem to hold up as well at the back, simply because the door behind it naturally has no fixing points for it. This means that the back of the inner sags somewhat whilst the front is perfectly taut.
That sounds like a long list of gripes but they are minor and didn't stop us being delighted with and thoroughly enjoying our new purchase. It hasn't had a proper wind or rain test yet but the 3 sets of TBS and copious guy ropes should mean it copes well.
We had some debate over the colour - Vango says it's 'sage' but it is very pale. We decided that was a good thing, though, as it meant the tent didn't look like this was its first outing, although it certainly doesn't make it look old or faded. We also got the Vango 6 pole windbreak in polyester and, although it's not an exact colour match, they do look good together on site.
The bright orange guy ropes have clever little triangular adjusters that make getting the right tension so much easier than the old type ever did.
The Carrera comes with Vango's Lifetime Guarantee which gives great peace of mind and we look forward to spending lots of time camping with our Carrera.
