1 Reviews of the Cayman 500
By: Kuppenbender Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2013 Rating:
This is a tent that apparently never actually made it to production. I bought it from Nearlynewtents on eBay, who have a very close relationship with Vango (same parent company), and who often supply ex display/prototype tents like this.
The Cayman 500 appears to be more or less a polycotton version of the 2011 Vango Calisto 500, with just a few differences in the window design. It pretty much ticked every box for me. Steel poles, comfortable sleeping area for three, lots of standing room in the main living area, and most importantly, it's polycotton.
It's replacing a fibreglass poled polyester tunnel tent from Gelert (Stratus DLX), which was significantly smaller and suffered a pole breakage in extreme weather. The Cayman is an improvement in every way. As I paid a fraction of the RRP for this tent, it's pretty much the perfect upgrade.
I generally do my cooking outside (just not camping otherwise), which leaves enough room for a good sized table and four directors chairs in the living area. The windows let in more light than my old Gelert. You can shelter from the wind and rain and still comfortably read etc. By daylight. I can put it up on my own in just over 30 minutes and am overall very impressed with the size, fit and finish of the tent.

Manufacturer's Description
The Serenity Polycotton Range from Vango never made it to stores due to a sharp increase in the price of cotton at time of production, making the new cost too expensive to sell on to retail. With Vango being our sister company we have access to the few that were made. Giving you the opportunity to get something very unique indeed! Bursting with the usual Vango quality, features and reliability. This range truly is very special indeed.
The polycotton material means you will stay cool in warm nights and warm on cool nights. It boasts a porch for extra storage space and crystal clear windows. The amount of space inside is surprising. The three poled tunnel structure is quick and easy to pitch, giving lots of internal room to manoeuvre
The large living area, in this simple to pitch tent, makes it an ideal option for both short and long holidays. Great internal space, sheltered doors TBSII, storage options, dual entry, combined with premium quality luxury fabric make this a hugely comfortable tent for any family.
