6 Reviews of the Drummond 400

Very cheap to buy, £140, and easy to erect. Tent failed during strong winds, a tension band snapped and it flooded inside as no sown in groundsheet, also one pole snapped and another buckled. Still usable, but only just. We have another bigger six berth steel framed Can go which is great, but thought this smaller one would be ideal for shorter trips. Oh well.

As a camper with over 50 years experience
I retired last year and was given a voucher for leisure equipment decided we need a new tent as I can no longer bend down to get in a a medium sized dome tent which is over 12 years old and never had a problem with . We went for Vango which could hold 4 people and could stand up in . The instructions were poor with no pictorial on how to put the tent up and unusually no you tube instructions .
We found it leaked round the window zip also the nylon outer didn't go directly to the ground leaving a 5mm gap letting wind in .
The final straw we went away for 10 days camping only erecting the tent about five times 3 of the poles shattered and had to be taped up to fit through the tent sleeves . On phoning Vango I was fobbed off saying poles are a ware and tear item and to put my complaint by email this has been done twice no answer this tent was less than a year old my old tent has same poles which never broke . I have now a relatively expensive tent which is unusable do I want to buy a tent yearly no and poles lasting 9 months ! The build quality is just poor and so their customer service.

Big and spacious, with plenty of height (I have uploaded a photo next to my boyfriend who is nearly 6 ft to give comparison). Comfortably sleeps four on roll mats and huge amounts of space for bags and food. Enough to sit and play board games in the middle!
The problem with it being so tall is it struggled in the wind, and a pole snapped on mine when it was very windy. Groundsheet also lifts up a bit as it isn't anchored to the ground much. I would be worried about heavy rain for the groundsheet as well.
All in all, a good tent with loads of room, but perhaps not for extreme weather.

We just used this for the first time on a trip to Scotland. We had to put it up in pouring rain with a really strong wind, but that turned out pretty well and the inside stayed dry throughout. Despite some wild weather we stayed warm and dry all holiday, and there were no leaks at all. The bathtub groundsheet wasn't a problem for us, although it does let in the odd beetle if that's the sort of thing that concerns you. With all our stuff in the tent there was no problem with the wind getting under the groundsheet and the way the groundsheet fixes to the upper tent was nice and secure.
We ended up using the tension bands because the wind was so strong, and they worked really well. They were also useful for pegging wet socks to!
There is plenty of room inside for chairs and table. We had a double airbed in the bedroom, which fitted in well, except that the bottom was touching the inside wall. This didn't cause any problems as the inside wall was quite a distance from the outside wall and so it didn't cause any leaks. With two of us using the bedroom, there was plenty of room either side of the bed for our clothes, and several pockets which were useful for books, toiletries, etc. There is also good head height for standing in both the porch and the bedroom.
It's nice to have such big windows that let in lots of light. We had a little bit of condensation on them after the first night, but that's because we had some clothes hung up to dry. With a bit of careful ventilation, I wouldn't think condensation would be a big problem. It's easy to take down as well as put up.
I am really pleased with this tent, and wanted to write a review because I couldn't find many online and I think this is a very good tent for a good price. If you look around, you can pick one up for £150.

We love the fact that we can stand in it, both in the sleeping area and the porch. The first time we used it unfortunately it rained so we took advantage of the big space in the porch and stayed in it with foldable chairs and a small table! We like it a lot. The only thing we would change is the groundsheet. We would have preferred a groundsheet sewn in to the flysheet.
Really pleased with it :)

Great tent. Very spacious and comfortable. It's reasonably easy to put up - it took us more then indicated 10 minutes to do this mainly due to strong wind. Included instructions are very basic - so if you doing it for a first time it can be bit confusing.
My advice is to start from the back and move forward. Once flysheet is done it's a matter of few minutes to attach inner tent.
Porch area is a very good size with loads of light from massive front window and 2 smaller one on sides. My favourite bit is mesh side doors - I'd love to have it on both sides.
Sleeping area has some pockets on sides and double entry doors - you can attach divider in a middle to create two sleeping areas - we decided not to and have a mattress bang in a middle with plenty of storage space on both sides (only two of us).
Ventilation appears to be really good into a sleeping area - as there is biggish mesh at the back of the tent pulled out using two guy ropes and mesh opposite it at inner tent.
Porch area ventilation is questionable - as there is a mesh above a window but it's closely covered by flysheet. This is my least favourite part of design. Flysheet seems to be very tight around this mesh. There is an option of lifting it up with some sewn in 'spacers' but they fold down instantly. Didn't like this bit.
Last few words on groundsheet. Flysheet around porch area has around 30cm groundsheet sewn in which gets covered by inner tent groundsheet. Can't say how this will work in heavy rain but wee experienced fairly strong wind last weekend and ground sheet was lifting up a little from time to time. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. Quality of tent appears to be very good. Pitching is easy (one you know what to do). Tent offers loads of space.
