3 Reviews of the Edoras 500XL Airbeam
By: John,mel,3kids! Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2017 Rating:
Excellent tent, only recently come back to camping after a 5 year caravan lay off.
Easy up and easy pack away using the atwools method on you tube.
Plenty of space for a family of 4 and one little dog. Pretty much perfect size for a long weekend or main holiday. Material feels really good quality and being 150 denier should last a lot longer too.

I originally posted this review last year (2016) in the Edoras 500 area as at the time there was no facility to review the 500XL
Just back from our 2 weeks in Cornwall. Have to say that the Edoras 500XL is the best tent we have owned (and we have owned quite a few!).
Tent is 150 denier Polyester and feels a quality product. Extremely stable even in windy conditions and no issues with leaks or condensation. The excellent ventilation definitely helps with the condensation issue and as we invested in the additional roof liner that also makes the tent more comfortable in both hot and cooler conditions. We also purchased the carpet and due to lack of stock of the footprint groundsheet at the time of purchase I picked up a much cheaper compatible footprint from a now discontinued Outwell tent.
A 5000HH means the tent is really waterproof and there were no leaks at all despite a lot of rain over a 2 day spell at the beginning of the holiday.
Tent has the Vango TBSII tension band system which we used a few times on breezy days/nights and really helps to keep the tent stable.
Love the built in porch/extension which is perfect for sitting under in wet conditions and big enough to keep you well protected from wind, rain and extremes of sun. As we cook inside there is no need for us to purchase the additional awning; we keep the extension for just sitting under and extra storage for things like the BBQ and fire pit.
As it's just for two of us it is luxuriously spacious. The jump up in living space from the 500 to the 500XL is significant so we are pleased we made the additional investment. The internal photos I have posted will show you how much room the 500XL provides even with our cooking facilities set up inside.
Sleeping pods are a good size but then with just the two of us we were hardly going to be short of space! The darker 'lights out' fabric of the sleeping pods is a useful feature but not so dark as to make it gloomy.
Storage is good with plenty of internal pockets; zipped window covers are also a real plus.
Pitching was a breeze. Just got to love Airbeams.
Negatives are very few indeed and don't really detract from the overall enjoyment of the tent. Guy lines are a stupid grey colour and easy to trip over; Side door would have benefited from an eyebrow porch and why-o-why don't Vango fit two way zips on the bedroom pods?
Packing up was easy too. Followed the method in the Outwell video on You Tube posted by Gary Cross which resulted in a well folded and rolled tent that went back into its bag without any problems.
I highly recommended this tent; it's a real keeper and will have no plans to upgrade for a few years yet.

This is a new tent for 2016, we've used it twice and on the second longer holiday it threw up some issues with the canvas around the airbeam which moved and twisted in the wind causing the tent to go out of shape! The front window zip seam also came apart! The tent is really easy to pitch but does need two people to pack away! It's a big tent and I'm hoping our issues are a one off!

Manufacturer's Description
Updated for 2017 the Vango Edoras 500XL Airbeam. For families who need lots of space for longer holidays, the Edoras XL creates a perfect balance with its double section living area. Summer campers in particular will benefit from the grand front extension which can be used for food preparation, shade from direct sunlight or as a private area to sit out under the stars.
The flat front, pre-bend AirBeams make the most of useable internal space and the Protex 150 Denier polyester flysheet is a highly waterproof, durable and reliable fabric that will keep any users dry and comfortable.
Additional features include king size bedrooms, living area pockets and zipped privacy curtains to make the most of your camping experience. With the Edoras tent you have the option to attach a zipped front awning, offering plenty of extra space, whether you want to use this for an additional storage area or even a second living area for your family and friends.
Being part of the Vango Exclusive collection it also has the new Vango Sky track system for easy hanging of lanterns and other accessories. Vango have also made the front of this tent to take an extension awning or a canopy which is secured with a full length zip to avoid any gaps for draught.
Supplied complete with the newly designed pump for 2017 for even easier inflation this tent really does tick a lot of boxes if you are looking for a high quality tent packed with features.
