3 Reviews of the Hurricane 300

Hi I have the above named tent and first pitched it at faskally ( near Pitlochry) in May of this year so gave me a chance to check out how it s set up goes ? myself and my brother took approx 3/4 of an hour to set up completely which for our first time were reasonably impressed over our 3 days of camping we had quite nice weather but on leaving on the 3 day it started to rain as we were taking it down so had to put it all back in the bag ASAP my only complaint all be it a small one is ( there is no built in groundsheet which at night you get a small draught on the side but not enough to keep you awake

My son uses a Vango hurricane on regular scout camps and small expeditions including his Chief Scout award and DofE and school camping trips.

An excellent tent easily assembled straigh out of a useful compression stuff sack.

Very cozy ~ a great shade of two tone green/black Protex SPU 3000 ripstop polyester flysheet with multiple reflective points blends into the environment very nicely in the hills, it's bright orange inner section made of ripstop polyester is pleasing on the eye and helps illuminate a well designed accommodation area.

Although not the lightest of 3 man tents to carry, you may wish to bear this in mind if you are carrying this more than 25 ~ 50 miles in one trip, but when pitched, it far outweighs any 4.7kg disadvantage when it comes to stability, it's smooth, strong geodesic design and quality build with strengthened silicone elstomer coated ripstop polyester flysheet deter the worst the weather can throw at it, stainless steel/nylon zip, rainstop flysheet door, and powerlite T6 alloy colour coded tipped poles and line lock guyline runners gives sound confidence that it will stay up during any howling gale as we experienced in Cumbria recently.

Useful side storage pockets and a hammock make good use of available internal space, benefiting a spacious sleeping area, it really does feel like a Tardis and feels much bigger on the inside. An optional groundsheet is highly advised, if pitching on wet ground you don't need to kneel into a soggy puddle when climbing into your sleeping bag!

It does tend to heat up very warm when in direct sunlight, but useful vents built into the super structure and double ended doors aid ventilation however the lack of an optional zip on snow baffle for really cold/wet weather as seen over this last week would be welcome and make this an excellent all rounder suitable for the U.K's highest peak's without getting caught out in a unseasonal blizzard!, and compared to a similar style Vango Vortex, for what we purchased it for we can live with the difference.

I would recommend this for Scout's, Explorers, DofE and Expeds.

Great tent for the money they can be brought for allot less than the RRP, I got mine for £170.

Although they say it is a three man two people can sleep comfortably, or one man and all his gear. The tent has front and rear porches for storage as well but the floor is not covered in them, unless you buy a vango footprint which I have and it works well because it provides additional protection to the groundsheet as well.

I have used this tent in a few weather conditions such as

Cold - It was about 3-4 degrees celsius outside with the correct equipment for example a thermerest and a decent sleeping bag I was comfortable.

Wet - I have not had any problems in wet weather although I have not tried it in torrential rain yet but would imagine it being fine.

Windy - The tent managed to withstand gusts of up to 25mph without any problems, inside the flysheet was a bit flappy but it sheltered me well.

Hot - I Have only had a problem on a summers morning. When the sun hits the tent it can heat up and be uncomfortable especially if you are wrapped up in a sleeping bag. This does not bother me much because I tend to get up early anyway. I would not use this tent in hot countries

Because the flysheet does not pitch separately.

Overall I am happy with this tent and can see many more years use.
