2 Reviews of the Hydra 200

A really tough 'little 'tent, quite hydrodynamic if pitched back to the wind. It will remain secure in very high winds, supported with excellent guy out and peg down points.
Made from a ripstop polyester it is rated at 5000mm HH, higher than it's successor the Helvellyn, which is made from recycled materials.
Like all Vango products it is thoughtfully and well specified, lots of pockets, good 2 way zips. This is important with the large vestibule when cooking and are able to vent the top. Plentiful mesh covered vent cowls, but with nothing to hold them open save a stiffened edge.
Like most nominal 2 man tents, this is definitely not a 2 man tent, unless travelling light. It is a comfortable 1 man tent with kit. There are bigger 2 man tents, even from Vango. At 6' 4' it is barely long enough. Who sleeps with their feet at right angles?
At just under 3kg, some may find it too heavy for backpacking, but it is a strong, no nonsense, take it all in it's stride tent. And cheap.

Having a collection of Vango tents already for different uses I came across this one and decided to impulse buy as I liked the style of it and the simple fact it was a Vango. I needed another small back packing tent as my son was going to come away with me occasionally.
I first used this for a weekend camp in September 2014 and have used it regularly ever since, its a great little tent which is more like a tardis as there is more than enough room inside for me and my gear, Im 6'3' and have no problems at all. There is a good size porch which can open either side a good thing if there is a bit of wind as you can still cook in it in relative comfort.
One slight draw back is that there is a tendancy for some water to gather on the roof of the tent where it has the poles crossing but no real issue, I adapted mine by getting a couple of small brass eyelets and fixing them through the sleeves to take the water away.

Manufacturer's Description
The Vango Hydra 200 is a semi-geodesic 2 man tent that is ideal for year round trekking, due to its self-supporting structure which provides an excellent balance between weight and stability. The Hydra benefits from a sizable interior including a large front porch area with its own groundsheet and a multifunctional flysheet door, providing the option to roll away completely for an open porch. Perfect on all terrains, this easy pitch tent is great for wild camps and multiday trekking.
