4 Reviews of the Icarus 800

This tent is lovely and roomy, with some nice well thought out little extras like pockets and stay open vents.

Overall well made, although on my tent there were some small niggles ie toggle not stitched on one pole splintered and one guy line attachment loose, which is why 9/10.

First large tent, but I had no trouble pitching by myself and the sleeping pods were simple to erect with space in each for three air beds and foot room between each (8 berth = 6 humans) and again pockets along the sides. The tent is well vented at each end a two side vents plus the two doors which act as vents also (they don't zip all the way around being open at the bottom, having inside mesh doors with a panel at the bottom) the door zip's are covered well and wind and water proof. Two large windows with built in blinds allow for plenty of light.

I bought the Vango carpet for the tent and it fits nicely, as it should, it would be better if the carpet had anchor points as there are already 6 in the tent for the sleeping pods which could be used.

Te tent was pitched for a week in July Scotland and withstood the rain very well and the Vango tension bands work for windy days, however, the poles were light and bendy, heaver duty poles would have made this tent so much better. High viz guy lines were a nice touch and having two doors on each side was very handy.

I am well pleased with this tent and would recommend this tent for family's and people who like a lot of space, ideal for longer stays.

PS Vango don't cover their poles under warranty,

I already own the Icarus 500 but needed more sleeping pods to accommodate me, my daughter and my teenage grandson. We use the 4th pod for storage (and to house the Kampa Khazi).

I am very impressed by the 800. It is easy to put up and very stable even in poor weather. The second night of our two week stay we had a real downpour but stayed cosy and dry inside the tent. The fourth night we were hit by high winds and the tent remained very stable, despite the fact that we forgot to put on the tension straps.

The tent is very roomy but we still also bought the porch. I like the fact that the porch has its own separate ground sheet. It is big enough to set up the cooker unit and table & chairs.

My only complaint is that it is very difficult to get a good link between the porch and the tent. We found we had to leave a gap between the porch ground sheet and the tent to allow for water running down.

Our two weeks holiday did test the tent and it stood up very well. Happy with our choice.

Just spent two weeks on the Isle of Wight with the Icarus 800 and porch having bought it as a package deal. We had only tried it for a weekend before that.

We upgraded from the Icarus 500 to the 800 for just 3 of us because my daughter, grandson and I all need separate sleeping pods and the 4th pod is useful for storage (including the Kampa Khazi). The 800 and porch gave us all the room we needed including being able to cook in the porch.

The second night we were away it poured with rain but not a drop in the tent. The fourth night the wind tried to blow us off the Island but the 800 stood firm through it all despite the fact that we had forgotten to set up the tension bands. We remembered when we had high winds a few days later.

I am very pleased with the Icarus 800 and would recommend it to anyone else although I still doubt whether it could really accommodate 8 people.

We've just upgraded to a Vango Icarus 800 from our very old Sunncamp Tourist Plus. We found that our old tent while generous in the sleeping area didn't give us space to sit or cook when it rained. I did extensive research in fact years of looking a reviews and trying to find a great tent at a great price. I decided on a Gelert Horizon 8 & ordered one week before a week of camping that I was convinced was going to be a very wet week of camping. I was devastated when I got an email to say it was out of stock and wouldn't arrive in time for our week away. I just couldn't get hold of another one anywhere in time, after all that time researching I was going to find something else quickly. I phoned the only place locally that I could get to & told them what I wanted. They suggested the Icarus 800 & at that moment were about to do a package deal of £450 inc carpet, canopy, footprint and tent. This was £100 more than I was going to spend on the other tent but went for it as it did seem like a good deal. So we arrived with a new tent at the start of our week away and the tent whizzed up (friends helped) We stepped back and thought - wow what a great tent, this is going to be perfect & it really was! So much space (we wouldn't take the canopy for a weekend as we wouldn't need it, there is so much space). I really can't speak highly enough of this tent.

It turned out to be the hottest week of the year! I love the extras, such luxury after out last tent. I'm sure we could spend two weeks in this tent no problem. We managed to ping the elastic when taking the tent down (our fault I think) I rang the shop and they sent a replacement kit straight away - great service. The weather didn't put this tent to the test at all so I might have something to say if we have a wet week somewhere. We managed to get it all back in the bag (I watched a video on youtube which was helpful) & the bag isn't that big or heavy because the poles aren't that massive. So it all turned out ok in the end!
