9 Reviews of the Idaho 600
By: Bristow Reason: I've used one Made in: 2007 Rating:
We first used this tent in the New Forest with 2 adults, 2 big teenagers and a toddler. Due to the weather we found ourselves inside the tent rather a lot and ended up being a bit cramped for all of us. We have therefore gone on to buy an 8 berth Vango.
The Idaho 600 is very easy to put up, even in windy weather. It has great height to it which is one of the reasons we purchased it as my husband and I are quite tall.
There are two doors to this tent - for the one we have purchased two poles and DIY eyelets so that we can keep it up as a small canopy. (very small cost to do this)
The teenagers have moved on now and this tent is great for 2 adults and 1 child although I'm sure there is sufficient room for another one or two children.

This is our third year with the Idaho 600.
Its easy to put up but like other tents a lot easier if it's not windy.
It's a great size,it's usually just two of us in it but plenty room for four.
The dome is pretty high but it did stand up to very strong winds in Gareloch. It was a bit scary though. The owner of the site told us quite a few of the cheaper supermarket tents would often end up in the field.

I know this is quite late for a review, as the tent was made 4 or 5 years ago. But I feel compelled to add my experiences, in case any one thinks about picking one up in a sale or on ebay.
This tent is great in ideal conditions. It has lots of living space and has been watertight in some nasty weather. But in anything more than a slight breeze, it's pretty awful. The main dome is too large to be properly supported by 2 slim poles and can be easily flattened by a strong breeze. Trying to put it up in windy conditions can lead to broken poles (I've had to replace poles 3 times already). If you do have to pitch in the wind, point the living area into the wind, and peg out all the ropes, including the windows, for extra support. Oh and keep a pair of slip on shoes near the door and be prepared for some middle of the night resecuring adventures.

We have used our tent a lot, but find that when it rains and you open either of the doors the rain comes in all over the ground sheet, could do with a porch to stop this happening, I agree with the other about the canopy. Also very pleased with the space in the tent and the fact you can stand up,

The tent is a good height and meant that we could walk around comfortably- great for my partner at 6'2'!
I really liked that the inner part can be 1 or 2 rooms.
Like other reviewers, a little disappointed that the big door didn't become a canopy- would have been really useful.
Lots of space inside the tent but wouldn't like to think that 6 people would be using it at once! There are only 2 of us plus luggage and there was lots of room. Also used the tent with 4 adults in total and was pretty roomy. But I think 4 would be the limit!

Just returned from a week in North Devon, despite the heavy rain on a couple of days the tent performed flawlessly.
Excellent height in the living area, and good space in the inner pod.
We had not pitched the tent before our trip, which took slightly longer at around an hour, but this was mainly due to being unfamiliar with it.

This is our first tent and we are very pleased with it.We found it very easy to put up and stores nicely in the pack. We have yet to have it tested by the rain!.
We are considering a slightly larger tent with all the bits a pieces we take such as coolboxes, tables , chairs etc the living area can get a little cramped. As previously state by others the lack of a sun canopy is a little disappointing. However a good starter tent at a reasonable price.

I completely agree with Philo9 - the Idaho is an excellent size & height, easy to pitch, very reasonably priced, quality tent.
We're a family of 3 & it easily fits our kingsize & double inflateable beds. We consider this our weekend/short break tent - for longer trips we use our Diablo 600.
I too miss the potential sun canopy & have actually considered 'DIY-ing' eyelets & using the canopy poles from my Diablo!

The tent is nice and roomy with a large cozy inner mesh pod. The height of the tent is such that you can walk around inside the living area comfortably without bending. It is a breeze to erect, takes us about 20 minutes tops including inner bedroom and all the pegs. The footprint is rectangular and about 5 x 3 metres which is big but not so big as to upset some of the fussier campsites. We have never had any trouble with leaks and even condensation is very low due to the vents in the flysheet. There are two doors opposite each other which, when both open allow a nice draft to run through the tent. One of the doors has a flyscreen.
The only reason it was given a 9 was, I think, because the biggest tent door has two parallel zips which allows the door to roll up. If Vango supplied two polls and some eyelets in this door, then it would make a good canopy. Seems a waste, great tent though.
