10 Reviews of the Killington 600

By: Oomzay  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2008   Rating:

We have owned this tent since new in summer of 2008 and used it for at least 2 weeks every summer since then come rain or shine (i.E. 10 English summers so far).

It is the best family tent of this capacity (6 man) that I have come across in 55 years of family camping experience. Apart from the quality material and construction the stand-out feature for us is the three generous and well separated bedroom 'wings'. These wings can each accommodate a large double air-bed plus some luggage, and seem very much more comfortable than the 'sardines in a row' arrangement found in most 6 & 8 man tunnel tents. This format is well worth the extra poles required to put it up.

I came online today to see if the model or style is still available because we put ours up on our lawn for a pre-flight check and found that, after 11 years, rain water seeped through 2 of the seams. Unfortunately I can't see anything of this format and quality on the Vango website. Fortunately the waterproofing liquid I put on the seams this morning actually seems to have done its job so this tent will be serving at least one more summer, and perhaps several!

An impressive product for £270.00 + £9.00 waterproofing! That works out at about 30p/person/night. Vango, please bring back this format before this one finally perishes!

Brilliant! Love it!

We bought this for a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 teenagers. Aware that they were still growing I opted for the large and airy Killington. 3 Pods for the bedrooms and the middle section gives large living quarters. The tent is well vented and has been very good. We did have condensation inside but we found this stopped on the chilly nights when we used a oil radiator on low. We bought this second hand with footprint and carpet and it has served us very well indeed. We Fabsil'd it last year, after being in rain for 4 days the tent had started to drip in a few odd places. I think that was the first proofing it had had. It was bone dry the following time we used it.

I only have praise for this tent.

Bought our tent second hand really cheap due to a couple of wear and tear faults, very shocked when we first put it up due to the fact our 1 bedroom took 10 mins. This takes 40 mins to an hour def 2 people. However once up its Fab, we love it, like home from home, As for withstanding weather we have scraped ice off our in a morning and had to defrost the zips, Xtreme camping lol ! Would recommend and cannot see us replacing I think we will keep going with ours till it Falls to pieces. Love it! (loses a point for rain falling in when you open doors)

This is a great tent for a family holiday(we are 5) and long weekends, good in all weather, we invested in the carpet/rug kept us nice and cosy when it was rather chilly.

Very spacious, large living and sleeping areas.

Takes about 45mins to put up, you need two adults. This is where I dropped the rating.

This is a great tent, upgrading from a two bedroom 'weekend tent' to this was the best move made so far. There are three good sized bedrooms, that can take a double airbed with space around for stuff.

The living area can take a four person table and seats with space to get around it. The porch is a great extra space holding the kitchen stuff and other camping bits and pieces including wet footwear. Even with 2 adults and two kids there was still space to get round all the stuff!

The tent stood up to wind and rain with no leaks and dried very quickly in the sunshine. Fully sown in ground sheet also reduced the drafts to a minimum, but the several vents in the bedrooms and around the main living area helped to reduce the tent temperature on the sunny day. The front and side doors have ground sheet thingy that can be let down to reduce the tripping risk (a great idea).

Only downsides, it takes approx 1 hour for 2 people to put up, the DVD is not the most useful instructions but do help with an idea of what you are trying to achieve. It is quite heavy to move when packed away (the wheeled bag compensates for this).

Wow what a tent! I always wanted a Diablo but was offered this brand new half price. So glad and no difference. Beds are ample enough for a double airbed and bit of space at the side. Plenty of head room, my 15yr old son is 6ft 2 n had no probs inside this tent. The sewn-in groundsheet is fab! makes a lot of difference.

We used the side entrance which left a space for the table etc. Plenty of room for all. All-in-all I'm thrilled to bits with my tent! Now my only negative. The door entrance doesn't make a canopy so when its raining but still warm or you want to see out the rain comes in. We had to put a towel down. I've just purchased a vango universal canopy off ebay for half the rrp to solve this minor fault. Otherwise a fantastic tent!

Best tent I've ever owned, easy to put up just my wife and myself do it. Ccan hear you all saying 'that size tent for just 2 of us' well yes we like the space it offers and its like having a stateroom at a hotel instead of a double! Saying that I would recommend this tent to families

I really, really rate this tent! It is perfect in almost every way!

I will start with the negatives - Negative 1 - it takes a while to put up - Vango say 45 mins! We say MORE! This would be more of an issue if the final result was not as good as it is. This is not a weekend tent!

Negative 2 - the Diablo benefits from having the central dome zipped off and the porch area separate - the Killington would benefit from this if only during the chillier months. This isn't *really* a negative come to think of it more a comparison. It is better than the diablo in the sense that you pitch it fly first. We have pitched this in heavy rain and NOTHING inside the tent got wet.

I have no idea why Vango have discontinued this tent other than their sales must not have recovered from their 2007 models needing to be recalled due to leaking. Our tent has been put though some serious weather punishment (Very heavy rain AND strong winds) and it has been AMAZING, exceeded expectations in every way.

The black out colouring on the pods is GENIUS our little lad (2) slept in one morning till 9.30 which is UNHEARD of!

I love the layout, everyone gets their own space and ample room for storage. Plenty of room for all your camping essentials and frivolities. It might be aesthetic but I love the way the vango tents have the flaps to cover where the pods are attached to the flysheet.

All in all we are very happy with this tent and you should be able to secure some decent deals now. It is a super family tent which you can put up with 2 (inexperienced) people. It's a lot of quality and space and size for your money.

We have the footprint and the carpet also. Not very impressed with the quality of the carpet (we have sent one back but the replacement ALSO has a fault) but the footprint is a good addition to the kit as it protects the SIG.

Very good tent- great 4 family camping. Only problems with it is its takes over an hour to put up, its also not a touring tent putting it up for one night is hell. Also vango could do more detailed instructions. Overall very good tent which can withstand a fair amount of weather.

We bought one of these last summer for £330 from winfields near Bury.

Must say it is a very good tent which is bigger on the inside then what it looks from the outside.

We are a family of 5 with 3 young children and we bought this tent because it is very spacious even for us

The 3 bedrooms hook up after the main tents been erected and fit a double airbed with space at side.

The living area is massive plenty of room for your general camping things.

The porch area is a good size also which when we go camping we put a double folding table with the cooker and 2 folding seats and theres still a reasonable space left.

The tent goes up pretty well once you get used to it,but saying that it is hard that initial lift of the poles.

We have camped in the tent in all weathers and it coped very well, when it was hot there is plenty of windows and vents to open which help cool the tent quickly

And when it was cold we lit the heater for a short while and the tent did well retaining the heat.

The last time we went camping it rained really bad in the night and in the morning there were a few slight puddles near each bedroom, but I think they may have been from condensation dripping down.

Theres not really any bad comments I can make about this tent ,the only thing I could say is that the tent does not clean very well, our tent had some mud type stains on the outside an I clean them with soapy water nearly straight away and there was still a mark there,so I used a spray cleaner and still no luck and thats the same with other little stains I have found.

Sorry to put a damper on the review because besides that I highly recommend this tent

Manufacturer's Description

Revised for 2008, Vango has taken the enormously popular Vango Diablo design and re-vamped it to create a similar type of dome tent called the Vango Killington. The major difference between the two is the fact that the Killington has external poles which mean that it can be pitched flysheet first whereas the Vango Diablo's are pitched inner first and have an internal pole frame. These large geodesic family tents will continue to offer the best in camping comfort - generous sleeping areas, exceptionally large living areas and extended porches for protection from the weather and that all-important storage. The Vango Killington range features an integral sewn-in groundsheet protecting the living and bedroom areas from drafts, water seepage. The porch features a large front door, a side door and multiple windows.

There are windows into living area, a rear door (beyond the rear of the middle bedroom), 3 two-berth bedroom compartments, a detachable riser groundsheet (doubles as flying carpet) in the porch area, 'Crystal Clear' windows with internal covers, mesh ventilation throughout inner tent, a Protex 5000 durable polyester flysheet (5000mm hydrostatic head), taped seams, colour coded poles and continuous pole sleeves, breathable polyester inners, Fibreflex poles, roller bag, repair kit. Flame retardant throughout and comes with a lifetime guarantee
