6 Reviews of the Nevis 800

We've just used our tent for its 3rd year and it was a nightmare. 4 poles snapped for no apparent reason, i.E. It wasn't very windy at all and wasn't raining. Luckily we had some spare poles as one broke last year as well, so we coped, but once we'd used up all our spare poles we daren't so much as touch the tent in case more snapped. I've never had a pole snap in a tent before so I can only assume that this is a design error. We paid more for this tent as we thought the poles would be better, but we were wrong. Other than the poles we think the tent is great, but now I need to buy a couple of packs of spare poles so we can dare to go camping with it again.

Having owned a few large family tents I bought the Nevis 800 and have just used it for a 3 week family holiday.
I am surprised that it is being discontinued - I was glad to get hold of a 2010 model. I am writing this review as I think the tent is a very good idea. It is the same as the Tigris but built in lighter weight (but tough) material with lightweight alloy poles.
This tent is very good indeed. For a touring family holiday - it was superb. It was so much easier to handle - putting up and down, packing away. We had some very heavy rain and wind (we were in the Alps)- the tent had no problems. Ventilation was notably good.
We used it with a the Nevis/Tigris side canopy which was very useful in the rain - meant we could eat/cook in the dry but outside the living area. I wish the canopy was lighter weight too!
A technical family tent like this is a really excellent idea - well worth paying a bit extra for.

We love this tent, bought it to replace our Equinox 650 so a tough act to follow! Relatively light packed weight and size compared with rivals sold it to us.
You can attach the 4 man inner at the end for the 2 x 2 man ones and then you are able to use the large end door; use the king poles supplied and you have a lovely canopy to sit under in the evening if the weather's good.
Peg down groundsheet at the side doors great if you have little ones - no tripping over bathtub sides. Relatively draught free once pegged back up at night.
Best of all: it fits back in the bag supplied!

This tent is a great size, love the layout. Also have a porch which does give that bit extra to put shoes and sit when it rains. Has pockets for storage and you can choose how many bedrooms you have.
Ideal tent for us and our 4 children. We too have found slight mould on the inner lining and yet we always it pack away dry!

Nice large tent relatively easy to pitch. We have however had mould growth on the new one bought in July & also the replacement sent by Vango. Stands up well to the British weather & great apart from the mould (see thread in message forum) Another drawback is the end door can only be used if the larger bedroom is not pitched.Side door has no porch.

This tent is an exact copy of the vango tigris 800 apart from a few upgrades like alloy poles instead of fibreglass and a better quality flysheet and lighter too.
It took two of us to set up in about 30 mins was told one man 20 mins not sure about that one. Only down fall was the end door which can only be opened if you don't use the double inner bit of a floor there I think. Other than that a great tent.
