5 Reviews of the Salonga 900
By: Nelli Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2010 Rating:
I bought my tent this year s/hand, the last owners said that they had only used it once, that it was too big for them to handle. our first trip out in August to N/Wales in our new tent did not go well, after 3 days we had a bit of a storm, the same thing happened to our tent as it did to Dr Dave 1 tent. The poles to the domed roof speared there way through their pockets, and at the same time bending 4 legs & roof support & ripping the flysheet to both top corners of main door. I own 3 other Vango tents of different sizes, been camping over 40 years, I agree with all the other reviewers comments for this tent, where can I get it repaired?

This may look odd compared to the other reviews, but read on.
We loved our Salonga - perfect for a family of 4 and I agree with everything said by the other reviewers. But we had an interesting experience with ours. After a few uses we notices a leak. Just where the fibreglass roff poles sit into internal pockets. These poles are under compression and so bulge up to form the domed roof. With use, these poles began to spear their way through the pockets. This put strain on the roof corners and the stitching began to part and so allow water in. This stretching also means that the pockets get further apart and so, under high winds, the roof is pushed in. Hence becoming a bowl - not ideal if it's raining as well!
Overall this was a great tent - with a very poor design feature that only comes to light after several uses. The roof poles should have been attached at ground level and preformed like all the other poles. Very disappointed.

We bought our tent march 2011 and have had 3 camping trips so far. We love this tent, it accommodates for 2 adults and 2 children under 3. It's a massive tent, offering plenty of space for the kids to crawl round & play in when the weather is bad. Downside is it's size as some campsites have restrictions on tents this big, other campsites charge 10 more for big tents, I wish I had known this prior to purchase.

Well I am finally able to write my review of this tent. Its great I can not fault it at all. It is huge & very comfortable . Though only 4 of us it gives each person their own space. We used the bedrooms as a double in the middle . Would fit a single in too. Each of the end pods would fit a double but kids have singles .& have extra space then. There is standing height in all the bedrooms too. The extra room we used as toilet area & clothes storage ( it does have a hanging rail fitted. )
The fly screens were a bonus as it was so hot these last few days . They kept the beasties out & allowed air to flow through. There are extra vents at floor level which also helped with air flow. It did feel warm in the tent .But when it was so warm out we didn't need to be sitting inside. Another great point is the porch area which we used for cooking , also used this as our main door. Having the fitted porch is great as 1 thing that was a down point to our other tent was having a sloping door & entering when raining meant the inside of the tent got wet ( us too lol ). There are plenty of windows letting light in. Plus side too for when it is wet outside that you wont feel to enclosed.
It took us about an hour to pitch ( about another 2 to empty car & get all stuff sorted lol!)It is a heavy tent & the pack is very large so you would need a large car / trailer if this was the tent for you.
There maybe 1 downside to the tent.Hubby wants inflatable sofas now to fill all the extra living space ! lol

We love our tent, big and loads of space. Can be a bit of a struggle to put up with 2 of us but it takes us about 1 hour from start to finish. Down side if its rain it will take longer with a grumpy face. And have to ask if campsite will accommodate us as tent is so big, a few of out old sites wont or want to charge us for 2 pitches! but still wouldn't change our tent.
