2 Reviews of the Solaris 400 Airbeam

I absolutely love this tent. It is of a beautiful green hue, that does not impose on the surroundings and is easy to erect. The large 'diamond clear' windows work well and it is a perfect tent for a couple (I always reccomend doubling the berth size, or at least adding one); this is a 4 berth tent. The sun canopy is really useful for protection from the sun and also stopping the rain from getting in through the front door.
I found one flaw with my tent. I had only had it five months and a torrential rain downpour got through the material and soaked the inside. Fortunately, the previous day's weather had prevented me from digging around in my car for a hook-up cable, because I would have blown the fuse. I did not use electric that night. I have heard that with air beams the fabric is stretched in that area and it appears that is what happened. The next day I reproofed it and covered it with a tarpaulin, but I should not have had to do that. This would not stop me from buying an air tent/awning; I would just beware of heavy rain and always carry a tarp sheet. The hydrostatic head measurement is 400, so you would think it should be waterproof. That was a day of exceptionally bad rain.

Whilst in glencoe on Saturday 23rd of September, the wind picked up full on the front of the tent causing the front airbeam to fold over. This happened several times even after I had put out extra guy lines where I could. TBS system tensioned correctly, beam pressures correct guy line tension correct, sun canopy rolled up and toggled, eventually the front and centre beams folded over, not good fun. Off to the supplier it went for the second time, wanting a full refund.

Manufacturer's Description
The Vango Solaris 400 Air tent is great in all weathers, but it truly shines on sunnier days on the campsite. Designed with a pre-attached sun canopy, the Solaris creates a grand covered outdoor area, which can be easily rolled away if not needed. The tent also features two generous bedrooms, stand up height and a large living area. Updated for 2017 the Solaris now features a covered side porch, which offers protection when entering the tent on rainier days. Ideal for couples and smaller families, this is a quick and simple tent to pitch
