6 Reviews of the Hogan
By: Sroot Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2012 Rating:
I find this cosy for two people, but light enough for me to take when camping by myself. It erects quickly, comfortably done within 5 minutes [roll out, peg out four corners, push shockcorded aluminium poles (all connected together) into four corners, hook tent to poles]
I've used it perhaps 8 times and unfortunately some of the riveted cord points have detached. Easy to fix, it's just getting around to it.

These tents are fantastic value for money, and are small and light enough for backpacking or cycle touring, which I have used for both. The best thing I like about this tent is like another review mentioned the speed at which it can be pitched and taken down again, and when its raining and the air is full of Scottish midges that's a huge advantage!

I have had this tent for many years buying it in 1996 (I think) It's taken some battering in it's time, yet it continues to be in excellent condition and meeting the demands of the British weather. It's very roomy inside, and the pegging out process is simple, giving good results every time - I am a veteran user but can get this tent up in 10min,
The other thing that impresses me with this tent is the quality of the materials. I reproofed it once, only because I thought it was about time I did, but can honestly say I've never had a leak.
I would recommend this tent to anybody.

I bought this tent in 2001, to take to New Zealand. It did sterling service there, resisting gales and rain and cold. Since then, it's been around England and Scotland. The only problem has been (like Ginreaper) when water leeched through the ground sheet, one very wet night on Skye. As it was just over the 3 year guarantee expiry, the shop advised reproofing and a footprint, which has done me proud ever since. The tent is a wonder, going up in no time, being stable, waterproof, well vented (yes it only has one opening but the skirt is quite high and the inner tent is very breathable) and a joy to use. I've actually spent more than half of this year in it so far, and love it even more now than I did 8 years ago. Very highly recommended.

We bought this tent to backpack Wainwright's Coast to Coast path over 13 days. It performed beautifully.
The next year we did the Great Glen and after this the ground sheet started to let in a little water. We sent it back to Vaude, and they duly sent us a new inner which has been fine ever since.
This tent is a marvel. It takes us two and half minutes to erect and with two people, one can be sorting out the beds while the other is putting in the last pegs. It is almost as quick to break camp. I'm 6ft 3' and there's probably room for someone a couple of inches taller. I bought it from Cotswold's and they let me put one up in the shop and lie down in it.
It has been to Shell Island (near Harlech) and survived the winds there and we were warm and toasty inside at 2000 metres in the Swiss Alps (summer).
You can cook in the porch as long as you are organised. But then if you are backpacking any distance, then you have probably got organisation sorted out.

We've had a Hogan since 2001, and have taken it around the world; it is light enough to get in a rucksack and on a plane. It pitches very quickly, is stable in high winds, and has handled heavy rain and some snow with hardly any trouble.
It is quite small, though adequate for two people. It keeps the heat well in cooler temperatures, though can get a bit hot in summer as there isn't too much ventilation.
It is our main backpacking tent, have absolutely no regrets about purchasing it.

Our Hogan tent is the optimally ventilated modification of the Mark tent construction with a minimal footprint that offers a maximum amount of room. The new pole solution at the foot area of the tent adds additional space and ensures greater stability. We've also made sure that it's easy and quick to pitch, making your life that much easier.
