4 Reviews of the Apollo 12
By: Frazer101 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2005 Rating:
Wynnster Apollo 12 absolutely massive tent. Just got back from lake district. Me the wife and daughter plus two dogs. The tent stood up to some very bad weather. Little leaks from toggles on the windows. But nothing to worry about. Could do with a bigger window or two. Would like the porch. But cant find one anywhere on the web

We are a family of five and two large dogs so like many others choose this ten because of its size.
I'm confused by 'Familyofsix' review because this tent is fly first and has not got a sig.
The pods will really only sleep two adults although we have jammed three children.
The living space in great and with two porches we tended to use one as storage.
So for we haven't had any problems with finding sites to take large tents and it certainly takes up lots of space.
Pitching is ok. No fun in windy conditions like most big tents. Pitch time is around 1 hour by the time you peg out all the guys and sort out the pods.
We have used this tent is some really horrible weather and it stands up well against the wind although if you dont get the porch it collects the rain. No real leaks to speak of

As a family of 6 (plus 2 dogs) we wanted maximum space for our money.
We wanted a SIG, 4 separate sleeping pods and the largest living space we could find and this tent fitted the bill.
**The Pods**
The sleeping pods easily fit a large double airbed in each, with some room at the end to store a rucksack or two. Each pod has a little pocket inside, handy for your wallet or a torch.
** The Dome/Living area**
It really is a cavernous space, with a door to the front and a door to the rear and a small porch on the front. Because it is a circular shape, the living space doesn't have a defined area for a table and chairs and we we usually end up plonking the table in the middle.
However it has proved a very useful space in previous years, having played 'duck duck goose' with a group of 13 soggy children, while their even soggier parents took their own tents down in the pouring rain outside.
**Pitching**
Over the last 3 or 4 years we have used this tent so many times that we can have it erected and pegged down in 15 minutes. Hubby can do it on his own but it is far easier with two.
It pitches inner first and has a SIG which keeps it cosy. However the trade off is of course pitching inner-first and we once (only once) made the mistake of trying to erect it in pouring rain in my sister in laws back garden, the inner of course was drenched before we could get the fly sheet over the top and it was unusable until it had dried out.
** Stability**
We often talk about getting a new tent, one with a more practical (and probably smaller) living space - BUT this tent is amazing in horrible weather. It has stood up to gales and storms and flooded pitches and hasn't buckled or bent or torn or leaked. When other tents around us flapped about and bent to the sheer force of the wind and rain, our trusty old girl stood firm - and for that single reason alone I would buy this tent again.
I have rated it 8 out of 10, it loses 2 points for pitching inner-first and for its circular living space being slightly impractical.

We are a family of four and decided we wanted a large tent so that the children could always play in it despite the weather. The tent is very large. But now that I know more about camping I don't think I would buy this tent again as a lot of the space in the dome area isn't very usable. The tent has stood up to torrential rain and storms with no problems.
