4 Reviews of the Apollo 16
By: Mickeyboyc Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2007 Rating:
We have just spent a week away in one of these and can heartily recommend it for the space. The central dome is H you G E as you can see from one of our uploaded images - we fitted all the furniture for 8 people in with ease, and with another family visiting seated 15. We would agree with the comments about 4-people pods, our fullest pod was two adults, a four-year old and a suitcase which was cosy. Would also agree that a window or two lower down would be useful (four semi-circular windows at about 6 foot up, two with mesh and two with clear plastic, but none of us tall enough to see what the weather was doing!)
Tent felt very stable in a stiff breeze and the tent coped well with a couple of heavy, gusty showers. The overall quality maybe doesn't feel quite so high as our Outwell 6-berth tent (one toggle and a couple of floor eyelets came off during the week) but it was certainly sufficient for our holidaying purposes and excellent for larger families and groups.
I don't know which age or version we have but it doesn't have the extended entrances listed on the description, and the poles are fibre-glass, but overall it is a very good tent thus far.

Just back from 9 nights in August in a second hand Appolo 16. It rained most nights and sometimes there was a lot of weather outside. It was August after all! The tent performed very well indeed. Only one dribble of a leak on a door zip but the water ran down the door and outside.
This tent was fantastic for our family of 4. Forget 16 people in here unless you are extremely friendly but two families of four could jut about get by. Lots of space and each pod had a different use. One even doubled up as a play room.
Only real problem is the same for all dome tents and that is that when you open a door that is wet, water falls inside on to the groundsheet. A small price to pay for the space and rigidity of a dome.
Easy to erect and pack away too. We had by far the smartest tent on the site and others thought it was very nice too. I particularly like to roof vents/windows allowing air in at the top of the dome. No outward looking windows either so very private.
In summary it is a fantastic tent and if you are considering buying one just do so.

Only problem is pole ferrules rusting badly and shock-cord pretty poor quality. Could do with a window or two - maybe in doors?
BUT - big, stable in wind, easy to put up (except in high wind) and VERY good value for money from internet shops

We have had this tent for 3 years now and have used it extensively for a month at a time in the summer and numerous other holidays.
Manufacturer marketed as a 16 man tent , though wouldn't recommend that many,
Can sleep 3 in each pod or 2 with all you suitcases and gear,
Though having a family of 4 we use 2 pods for sleeping 1 pod for cases and clothes and dressing room and leave one pod out and use the alcove for a large food and supply cupboard.
Also useful to introduce friend to camping plenty of room for 2 families.
This is a star of a tent , very large plenty of room for a large table and ideal for the chilly nights as it is still suprisingly warm despite its size.
Massive main area 5m x5m
Great for the kids in wet weather or for camp entertaining in the evening.
Plenty of pockets for storage.
Despite its size it goes up very easily , though does take 2 people to get the first of the 4 main canopy poles in place.
( one person to go under and lift the centre of the tent ,one to secure the first pole ,once one pole is it it self supports).
Although a massive tent extremely wind stable ,in a massive storm on a French campsite it was one of the few tents left totally unscathed with no swaying when many others were lost.
Our ground sheet is separate but later models have sewn in ground sheet (SIG).
4 doors making access easy and giving excellent ventilation in a hot summer.
Purchased at 1/2 manufacturers rrp often see advertised at such prices probably due to the size as a big tent may have limited appeal.
We have a smaller 6 man weekend tent for smaller campsites this large tend doesn't take any longer to put up .
Not a gripe but is a large tent footprint 9.4m x9.4m
This means some smaller campsites with edged plots may not be able to accommodate a tent of this size.
I would recommend this tent the best buy we ever made.
