3 Reviews of the Osprey 4

By: S.bentley  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2011   Rating:

Brought this tent as an upgrade from a starter tent that we had used to see if our family enjoyed camping. It was like going from a one star hotel to a five star. So easy to put up once we understood the picture instructions, all poles are colour coded.The inside is so big we got 6 adult camping chairs, table and dog cage in with room to spare!we could stand up straight in the bedroom compartment. There were no drafts and no rain got in through the bottom of the door because of the lip that can be secured. Took half an hour to pack everything away in the car, would highly recommend this family tent.

The osprey 4, what can I say that the other review hasn't said. Its a large 4 berth tent with loads of space, its got lots of little pockets for storing, large bright windows and air vents that can be opened or closed. Cable is kept tidy with velcro and because of its light coloured material its a nice bright tent. The canopy when up [which has side pieces for wind protection] makes the tent almost twice as big. In all a great tent for the price and would recommend [almost forgot to mention it is so easy to put up and take down even we didn't struggle].

I bought this tent for the 2008 season to replace my previous Wynnster tent. I chose the Osprey for three main reasons;

1. Sewn in groundsheet - keeps you nice and dry and reasonably bug free

2. Power Port - makes a neat job of installing my EHU

3. Living area height - its massive and you can walk around inside.

I've used this tent several times now, its a doddle to put up, takes two of us about 15-20 mins depending on the wind at the time, its very robust and has a hydrostatic head of 5000mm - so the rain isnt getting in!

The main living area is vast and there are velcro fasteners to allow you to place an electric light up in the top without creating a 'washing line' indoors.

There are lots of small storage pockets all around the living area and also in the bedroom.

The only downside of this tent is its pretty heavy when folded away in the bag, but then seeing as most of the time we pitch next to the car, this isnt such a big deal.

We invested in a breathable cushioned groundsheet to lay over the sewn in groundsheet and the Wynnster carpet to sit on top of that, makes for a a very comfy floor space, that I'm happy to lounge around on in the evenings.

I think this tent in no longer available to buy brand new, but if you are looking for a four man tent that has plenty of space and is stable in pretty much every weather condition, I cant recommend this highly enough.

Manufacturer's Description

The Wynnster Osprey 4 is the smaller brother of the Osprey 8. With a large main 300x300cm living area contained in the cavernous front dome a 4-berth bedroom to rear tunnel area. The tent also benefits from a fully sewn-in groundsheet. The construction is a mix of steel poles for the main body of the tent and then fiberglass for the tunnel bedroom area. Another interesting feature of this tent is the 'Windbreak Canopy' doorway (a canopy door with draft excluder walls to it) and two full sized windows either side of the living space. The technical features of the tent are: 185T Aquastop Taffeta Polyester Flysheet (2000mm hydrostatic head); Sewn-in PE groundsheets; breathable polyester inner; colour coded Superflex fibreglass poles and 19mm steel poles; Power Port; repair kit included; pitched flysheet first.
