3 Reviews of the Phoenix 4
By: Haz + Soo Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2008 Rating:
Bought this tent after reviewing several of top makes and this hit target both on value for money and overall design. With colour coding it is easy to assemble though clearly designed as a leisure tent. We are now wise enough to travel with spare pole kit as given the tension the poles are under it does not take to windy weather and poles seem to be relatively fragile. The height of the tent making it more susceptible to wind damage than other tunnel shaped models.

I bought this tent 2 days before setting out on my 1st camping trip for 25 years. No problems, set it up in the garden for the 1st time in under 1 hour, colour coded poles and instructions, make it easy to put up & take down
On holiday the rain was torrential for 5 days, only leakage was a small amount on the join between canopy & tent. I originally wanted the phoenix 6, but the phoenix 4 is big enough for all the family with room to spare and now I am pleased I didn't buy the larger one. The only problem could be rain blowing in through the large front door so now I've bought a vango tent extension to use for weather protection, cooking and for storage. All in all an excellent buy and I would recommend it to anyone

We bought a new Wynnster Phoenix 4 last year for an absolute bargain of £120.00. We looked at all the market leaders and finally decided on this one because it had everything we were looking for; 4 berth with 2 separate bedrooms, large living area for all of our gear, a built in groundsheet, large porch over the front door, and of course the price! Our first trip away was to Brompton on Swale where it rained and rained and rained (the River Swale actually burst its banks within 12 hours). The rain was coming down horizontally and the tent only let in a few drops of water on the groundsheet which came in through the slit where the electric hookup is inserted. There was no water anywhere else. This year our first trip was to West Ayton, North Yorkshire up on top of a hill, where again it rained and rained and rained. This time not a drop of water came into the tent. It has a very spacious living area, big enough for our table, chairs, kitchen, kids toys, portapotti, heater, everything really and is a good height.
There are 2 separate bedrooms with zip up doors and mesh windows at the top which are great for keeping an eye on the kids. There is a big porch over the main front door and it came in very handy when cooking in the rain! There are also 2 side doors, plenty of windows to make the tent feel bright and airey, compartments in the main living area and in the bedrooms for bits and pieces. It is easily put up, it takes 2 of us about 20 minutes, all the poles are colour coded, very straightforward. Considering all the rain we have had we cannot fault this tent at all.

Manufacturer's Description
The Phoenix 4 is a stunning looking tent. It has 2 separate bedroom compartments and a hexaganol living space. The tent also benefits from 6 windows allowing plenty of light into the tent.
# The tent pitches flysheet first and the pitching advice is 2 people to pitch in 20mins. # All fabrics used in for the flysheet, sleeping compartments and groundsheets have been given a Fire Retardant treatment, which in the event of an emergency will allow significantly more time to escape. # Each Wynnster tent is supplied with a repair kit and they include useful items to carry out emergency repairs. # The taped seams are heat sealed with a polyurethane tape to ensure complete waterproof protection. # The poles benefit from a colour coding system. This incorporates colour-coded poles and pole sleeves, groundsheet clip points, plus colour coded bedroom-hanging points thus reducing the assembly time by highlighting the correct place for each part. # The poles are Durawrap fibreglass with shck cord elastic and a five year guarantee. These have fibres that run the length of the pole and alsp have an additional woven 'wrap' that is printed with a criss cross design for reinforcement. As a result the poles are approximately 15% stronger and 10% more flexible than superflex poles. # The tent benefits from secondary mesh doors. This is a very fine mesh panel behind as entrance door that when used on its own allows light and air into the living space whilst keeping out unwanted insects. # The groundsheet is sewn in and is fire retardant, durable polyethylene. # The complete interior ofthe tent(the communal space & bedrooms) has the benefit of an integral, bathtub style groundsheetand secondary mesh doors, which will effectively keep this space free from insects and draughts. # The main pegging points have been reinforced with several layers of fabric and strong bar tack stitching to provide maximum strength.
