1 Reviews of the Aerodome I Classic

By: Darsh  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2017   Rating:

Our family of four previously had SunnCamp Evolution 400 2007. 10 years did their job, and it stopped keeping any rain out, even the lightest one, so I've searched for a replacement with three requirements in mind: hh 5000mm, dome (stability and to be able to use it without any pegs), standing height (at least 1.75m inside).

Zempire Aerodome came closest to these requirements. It has 5000mm hh, 1.85m internal height, and it is a dome. Since it is inflatable, it is much easier to pitch. But due to this, it cannot be pitched without using pegs: you first need to peg at least the tube ends to the ground and only then it will be possible to inflate it. Without pegging, the inflation turns into a torture.

We've bought it this spring and used it for a couple of weekend trips in the UK and during a two week trip around Czech and Germany this summer.

Overall, the tent is quite good, well designed, uses quality materials, pitch time is around 20-30 minutes single handed (5-10m for inflation, 15-20m for pegs), roughly the same time for taking it down. HH of 5000mm does its job - the tent is dry even during heavy showers. Thick tubes instead of poles keep the fly sheet well away from the inner tent, preventing them to touch each other and pass the water through. Dome structure makes the tent stable during strong winds. Packed, the tent is quite bulky and heavy (comparing to Evolution).

Potential improvements: decrease the size of the vestibule (or remove it completely), remove the third inflatable tube. Increase the thickness of the ground sheet.

Although the 'outdoor indoor' vestibule is quite nice, it also takes a lot of space, adds weight, increases packed size and pitch time (third tube to inflate/deflate and peg). SunnCamp Evolution didn't have a vestibule, and served us well for all 10 years.

Probably to decrease the size and weight, Zempire decided to use thin material for the ground sheet. It's too thin, in my opinion.

Summary: Good reliable tent, ideal for roaming trips (new place every night). A bit too big for us, and quite pricey (~£1k), but has good design and build quality. Switching to inflatable allows to save ~15-20 minutes on both pitching and taking the tent down. Recommended. Would be nice to see a smaller version of it some time.

Manufacturer's Description

Fully inflatable single room Air Tent. Large rear bedroom with internal living area and large front vestibule with PVC windows and a fully enclosed front door. The perfect weekend tent, inflates in under 5 mins and packs down in 1min.

The Aerodome I layout features a room at one end of the tent to offer privacy and warmth. This room (or privacy pod) can be also be removed to create a large open plan living space.

The twin side doors on the central living area can be opened up on warm days to allow maximum airflow and light and also create a free flowing open plan living space.

The Front wall of the central living area also completely zip open. This creates a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor living areas of the tent.

The front vestibule area is an ideal outdoor indoor space providing protection for the sun and elements, while the two large windows offer light while blocking wind and rain. The vestibule area also creates a transit area during wet weather allowing you to remove your wet and sandy gear before entering the tent. The large front door can also be closed keeping wet gear safe and secure.
