I thought I should put a review of this tent on here as I have owned a brand new 2002 model with the green rubber roof bought in 2003 for family of 4 plus dog.

The tent is very sturdy and excellent in strong winds and heavy rain.We use to go camping about 5 trips a year to rainy North wales when the children were still of school age. We always felt warm and comfortable in all weathers from heatwave 30 degrees to 0 degrees at night.

The only minor down side is that it does not have a sewn in groundsheet in the living room area but no problem we have used a large heavy duty ground sheet to cover the hole of the tent sitting on top of the inner rain and mud flaps and rising it up on all the sides by about 8 inches resting against the rubber plastic mud walls using cord through eyelets of ground sheet and fastening it on to the steel frame legs.On top of the ground sheet the two inner sleeping compartments sits.Inside the living area a full camping mat also sits on top of the ground sheet. We have had no draughts or bugs coming in.

The tent to date 2019 still as good as new a very well made tent indeed. I still remember when we bought it from a camp shop near Chester they said you should get a good 20 to 30 years out of it if looked after properly and I believe the advise was right.

Bought this off ebay for �200 as the only tent left undamaged on a field on the isle of skye after a windy night was a cabanon frame tent. I also have very fond memories of childhood camping holidays in similar A frame tents. Just been away in it for the first time. Was lucky enough that my parents still new how to put up and take down this type of tent so their previous help was appreciated. After emptying the bags, we had the poles up and connected in 20 mins and the full tent up and main corners pegged down in the following 20 mins. Taking it down didn't take much longer once the pegs were all out. There were a few envious glances on the field from all the families in small done tents while me, my partner and our dog had the biggest tent on the field pitched well before many others did. Fantastic inside - the side door helps if you need a cool breeze and we love how 70's and chintzy the curtains are. Once up, it is a cross with a Bedouin tent and a giant wendy house - utter luxury as far as I am concerned and to walk in to a full height tent when you are tired and wet after kayaking or hiking and to have space to move around is just wonderful compared to those hideous 'crawl in on your knees and get dressed on your back' dome tents. - hooray for Cabanon!

We have had our Antigua from new and love it to bits. It was originally bought before we had kids and as a couples tent it is ideal for long stays. The big pod is ideal to sleep in, the small pod for the toilet and all the clutter. The living space is nice and cosy with roof linings and curtains (ours are very pretty swirly orange that seems a rare pattern, some of them are a bit garish)

The materials and construction is very good, especially by modern standards, though it is a shame the Canvas does not have a bag and the poles only have a cheap hessian sack - not up to Dutch tent standards but functional. The frame is plenty strong and fairly tolerant of poor set up, though getting the kitchen piece set perfectly can be impossible on uneven ground

Set up (and pack away) would typically take about 2 hours total, with 45-60 mins for the tent pitching and pegging. Then you can put the kettle on and start clipping in the roof lining etc is a horrible job and we always argued whose turn it was . . .

Now we have 2 young children I would say it may become less ideal for us as they grow. Sleep areas are big enough but the living space struggles to take 4 chairs, a table and load soft toys in bad weather. But then that is why Cabanon made the bigger models

If you get one with the zip in side panel (real early ones don't) it can be extended, though the bedroom pod makes the tent a very strange shape and the the utility pods often cost more than the tents on ebay - if you do buy a utility make sure it has the curtain too, makes an ideal loo corner

Given how cheap the Antigua is on ebay these days I would think a good used one well worth the money and unlikely to depreciate any further. For a couple or small family it is a very solid, reliable and comfortable tent, we certainly dont plan to sell ours any time soon

We bought our Antigua off ebay this year, after lots of advice from ukcampsite members. We are a family of two adults and two boys (8,6).

The tent is relatively easy to put up and then there is lots of faffing around putting the inner tents and curtains up. I timed us, to pack tent and all our camping gear up last time took about an hour and a half with boys helping/interrupting. We have now had it out three times this summer and are off again this weekend.

The boys have taken to it really well, they get the bigger compartment which gives them ample space. We are in the smaller compartment and my only gripe is that I find it a little claustrophobic and would prefer our tent but with two three berth bedrooms. The size up has a two/four berth configuration. Think I will soon be buying the bedroom annex so we can reclaim the three berth bedroom.

During a sunny weekend it remained cool and airy, being able to lift up one sides mean that there is always a breeze. Again it feels solid, we haven't had to contend with really windy weather yet, although it dealt with a substantial rain storm without any problems.

Inside there is ample space however we haven't had to eat inside it yet, though with all the bags etc. That could be tough. Again, I think the optional canopy would be great and a purchase for the future.

It is big and heavy, it fits in our Honda CR-V, we managed a two week holiday this year. Though that meant not taking things we wanted to take so we are going to have to buy a roof box to take the overflow of camping gear.

All in all it feels like a family friend which is going to give us lots of use.

We currently own this great tent & have used it for 3 of our holidays which consisted of weekly holidays. We bought this tent off eBay from a couple that had bought this from new & used it only once due to bad experience. We are a family of 5, 3 of which are girls. This 5 berth tent is ideal for us all, nice and cosy.

The kitchen extension would be ideal for its purpose but we tend to hang our coats in this area as we would want the fat from the spitting frying pan to spoil the inner walls of the tent. There is a hanging rail in-between the 2 inner sleeping compartments, but is quite a slim tiny space to get to the other end of the rails, especially if you have 2 double airbeds within the sleeping compartments. The sleeping compartments have stitched groundsheets and good zippers to keep them bugs out. Also there are pockets within the sleeping compartment walls for storing your tissues, watches, wallet ECT while sleeping. The windows are nice and clear (transparent) if the tent is correctly folded when packing away then these will have no creases. All the steel poles are strong and are sprung together for ease of erecting and are fully adjustable with the legs for the height.

I would suggest that the inner sleeping compartments are clipped to the frame and pegged down after the erecting of the frame and before the coving of the outer canvas. The PVC roof is very strong and overlaps over the roof pole edges at a good couple of inches. The roof also can be washed down really easily. Above the door there is a great air vent for letting in the fresh air and keeping the tent air circulated. The PVC skirt around the base of the tent is ample and high enough to keep the dirt and rain away and is easy to wipe clean. The left hand side optional utility or bedroom panel can be used for just this but we have purchased additional poles and just unzip and use the poles to use this panel as an additional sun canopy. Also the front window also zips out along with the door and we do the same with this as the side panel.

The rubber bands around the bottom of the tent to peg down with are good quality and we haven�t changed one as of yet in the 4 years of owning this tent. The pegs that came with the tent are not so good quality and bend really easily in hard ground, so we bought rock pegs all round including the ones for the guy ropes. The guy ropes are of the polyester kind and have good quality metal adjusters and not the plastic ones. Once this tent is pegged down and guy roped this tent is very strong standing on its own without additional anchored wind straps. The PVC groundsheet that comes with the tent does puddle in heavy rain if not laid correctly within the tent.

The canvas when correctly folded does fit in the provided bag with ample space for the roof lining and curtains and space for the pegs. However the hessian pole bag after a while does eventually become worn and the poles protrude through the hessian bottom after a while, but again ample room for the poles. I would suggest however that 2 people should lift these bags as they are quite large and heavy. As I said before, we are a family of five and own a Vauxhall Zafira; we have had to purchase a trailer to transport the tent to our holiday along with the rest of the camping gear. This is a great advantage leaving plenty of room in the car for my Girls handbags and wardrobes!

Overall, this tent is excellent for the 5 people and has made us feel cosy whatever weather is thrown at us on our holidays. We look forward to camping in this tent again this year 2009 in Derbyshire knowing that this tent will make the perfect holiday year after year.
