5 Reviews of the Urban Escape 4 Man

This is a great tent for the £50 I paid. Have been in three short trips (4 days long) with up to 3 of us in it. Very mixed weather, the single issue I have found is when it hammered down, the rain gets in under the front door as there is only 1 bit of Velcro along the bottom. Had to use a towel like a draught excluder to stem the flow, however it was a Florida style downpour for an hour. Any other rain no issues. Like the pockets in the bedroom area. Can now put up in 15 mins (2 of us) or a bit longer on my own. Fits in bag no problems.

Bought this as an end of year clearance bargain, £50 and have used it a few times since. Unfortunately today I had to throw it, tent was fine until it met heavy persistent rain. Away for four nights this week and two of them were really wet, unfortunately so was the inside of the tent in the porch area, seems like a seam was letting it in, was going to treat it until when I took the tent down I noticed how wet the inner tent was and the mould spots were forming. Great tent until then.

Anyone needing a spare set of poles get in touch lol

I bought this tent in August 2015, it really was the mother of all bargains. £50 in the sale ! I have just returned from my first trip. Its me and 2 big dogs. You can pitch with one person after a bit of practice. Its easy to put up and really warm and cosy. As said in the above reviews, it is sold by clowns, only one pod, good luck getting 3 in it. Me and 2 dogs filled it. The living area is a godsend on cold nights. I don't want to go on about things others have mentioned. I agree that its fab value for money.

Downsides.

A bit of condensation on cold nights. Leave all vents open.

The porch is a joke. I'm hoping to find something to attach if anyone has any ideas???

The side door at night has a fair draught, between the door and groundsheet. The overlap but don't close tight. This maybe is my poor pitching. The dogs can just climb out. I have used masking tape at night. Made a real difference. A proper porch would be great.

I would recommend, although its been dry all week, will update after a wet trip.

Lovely tent, very good quality with really useful features, such as the lamp hooks inside and outside the bedroom. Perfect size for three people, but then most four men tents are :) Living space is a good size, we squeezed 6 in one evening and managed fine.

My only gripe and I wish I had really paid attention to the review before me, was the pegs! they are fine but not up to really windy weather, unless hammered flat to the ground they spun easily and things spun off the end then. I will be investing in new pegs but otherwise really good value for money, I'm absolutely delighted with my new tent.

This is a pretty brilliant tent for the money. I did quite a lot of research, and it came down to this, the Vango Juno 500 or the Hi Gear Enigma 5. It has to be said, this tent is up there in terms of quality and design with the Vangos and Outwells, but half the price; in every way it is superior to the Hi Gear, which beside it looks cheap, nasty and badly stitched.

The tent is a cinch to pitch, paticularly as it has features not seen on other budget tents, such as tension straps on the pegging points, and half length pole tubes. No more struggling to force the retaining pins into the ends of bendy poles which are trying to kill me!

Once up, it is extremely stable, although that depends on good guying, as with all tunnel tents. There are loads of nice design features that again you would not expect to find, such as groundsheet cills which toggle down, mosquito netting even on the front door, which is independent of the front canopy/door arrangement, excellent ventilation and, joy of joys, toggles to hold the doors back which are actually long enough!

Another plus is the bag, which is heavy duty rucksack material, has plenty of room and even a zip to add an extra inch of height to the bag if necessary!

There are only 2 gripes, neither of which is to do with the tent. Firstly, there is no footprint groundsheet available. No matter; I have made one.

Secondly, Halfords seem to be on a mission to ensure that absolutely nobody buys this tent. The website has next to no information, they haven't given it a proper name (I ask you, how on Earth are you supposed to be able to Google a tent called the '4 man tent'?), and the info which *does* fight it's way on is wrong.

IMPORTANT: The website claims it either has 2 bedrooms or zip-in bedroom divider. It has neither. This could be important!

In summary, this is a cracking tent, well made and keenly priced, sold by clowns.
