6 Reviews of the Sahara 6 Canopy
By: Tom smithy Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2008 Rating:
Great space but instructions a bit vague , was fine untill we got some strong wind and one elastic snapped off and one ring pulled straight , but this might of happened to any canopy in the position we was in , love the tent and canopy but really does act like a massive sale and not many guy lines for it considering how many you get on the tent lol , I’m sure I had it up fine but took it down before more damage was sustained . Good space and fairly sturdy just not in strong winds

My Son in law fitted one of these to his Outwell Explorer tent as the colour is very similar. The space is great - would be better if window area was included in the sides hence the reason for 9 stars. The fitting seemed to be quite easy & quick. It stood up well to the wind & rain & kiddies battering.

I bought the extension before any pictures were uploaded to this review. I was worried that the extension wouldn't be big enough and give us the room that we required, how wrong was I! As you can see by the images I've uploaded the extension is massive. Plenty enough room for family and friends to sit, eat and socialise.
I've knocked a couple of points off the rating for three main points;
1. The instructions for the extension are as woeful as those for the Sahara 6 tent it fits. Once you've worked it out it easy to fit but the instruction are so poor it's not worthy of a 10/10.
2. The tent and the extension aren't really in harmony, especially with how the front door is designed in such a way that it takes up a decent percentage of the extension. The main door can be folded away to some extent but then you've only got the fly sheet as the door which doesn't really give me the privacy or security that I'd want or expect. More thought into the design would have made this a nailed on 10/10 tent and extension.
3. Price, the going rate at GoOutdoor is £88 which is about £20 too much I reckon considering you can pick the whole tent up for about £250 when on offer.
Overall I think 8/10 is a fair score, I'd knock another off for the price but 7/10 doesn't reflect how much space and value this extension adds to what is already a great and massive tent!

Although the Sahara tent is huge in itself, we wanted somewhere to cook and keep chairs/ tables etc dry, but separate from the inside of the tent. I'm so pleased we got the canopy, It has really completed our outfit. The only reason I marked it as 8 out of 10 is because it is a bit awkward to put up, and I would quite like to of had a front on the canopy. But other than that it's fantastic.

Bought the sahara 6 canopy and carpet after first camping trip in new tent - what a difference it made - so handy for cooking and sitting in when the weather turns - the carpet made such a difference as well as it is so cosy in the mornings. Got canopy for £50 and the carpet for £45 as canopy is normally £90 - not sure if I would have been keen to buy at full price so really glad we waited

I bought the Sahara 6 last year and this year bought the canopy to add extra cooking space.
Having struggled to cook under the door awning with a windbreak last year I bought the canopy this year.
I have just returned from the first camping trip with the canopy and it was excellent.
The canopy gives an additional about 3m x 3m mostly square area at the front and then narrows to join the tent covering the porch area with the top of the canopy over the porch pole and following down the line of the porch poles.
I had mine set up with a higear store unit, cooker and washing stand on one side and room for two chairs and a table on the other.
The extra space is perfect for cooking and sitting if its cold, wet or windy.
The canopy is easy to erect even in high winds (easier than the first lift of the tent on the black poles) and fits well so there is very little draft between the tent and the canopy.
The colours of the awning and the tent don't quite match (maybe as they're a year apart) with the canopy having a brighter more defined blue and black, rather than my tents more muted blue and washed out black. However it still looks OK together.
Bear in mind that the sahara and canopy combination is huge - its a big tent anyway, and looks massive with the canopy - especially with the rear door open, you can see how big the thing is! Expect some comments from other (perhaps envious) neighbouring campers.
The cost at £70-£90 (depending on offers) is a bit steep but I'd say on balance its worth it as the fit of the canopy is worth the extra cost of getting the right canopy.
If you're a Sahara owner who's been jealous of other campers with their built in awnings (like the big Outwell ones) then buy this!
I'd give it 10/10 if it was cheaper.
