2 Reviews of the OEX Jackal II
By: Susan-J Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2015 Rating:
Decent size two man tent, which we picked up for wild and partly wild camping. Impressed with the good quality of the dry bags and the packing system which means the weight of the tent can be easily and manageably shared between two walkers. Build quality is excellent and it has so far weathered apocalyptic rain in the Trossachs, a fairly *interesting* thunderstorm down in Snowdonia and some North Wales coastal winds which were not kind. We’ve been using through the summer of 2015 with no problems at all. The awning is handy for storing things, and the mesh is Scottish Midge repellent, which is a much needed feature for us! Bonus that it’s made in the UK, too. Would recommend to anyone looking for a decent two man to facilitate some wilder hiking and camping. Tent pegs that came with the tent were a bit rubbish, but they always are.

Cracking tent for DofE type hikes - can split the tent with purpose made carriers so it stays dry on outside of rucksack and the youngsters can have an equal share of the load.
Good space internally, easily fitting two. The porch area is a good size too allowing kit storage and even careful cooking/brewing if the weather is a little inclement.
Sturdy design, minimal faff when pitching [enjoyed a good thunderstorm in one recently with no adverse affects!]
Very minor downside, can be a little tough getting the poles in there straps as they have limited tensioning allowance and the eyebrow canopy is quite tight too.
Otherwise - well worth the money and UK manufacture too!

Manufacturer's Description
A minimal, lightweight tunnel tent made using tough fabrics and aluminium poles.
The OEX Jackal II gives you all you need for comfortable camping, whether solo or with a companion, but weighs next to nothing and packs down to a size that won't slow you down.
Its simple tunnel design, robust flysheet and groundsheet and aluminium poles make it tough enough to protect you from stormy weather. The groundsheet is pre-attached, making pitching easy and keeping insects out. The compact front porch gives you room to store your wet kit and boots.
OEX tents have been built to withstand the trials of outdoor adventures and expeditions. They use 7075 lightweight aluminium poles, with durable poly flysheets that won't falter in arduous conditions, and will give you years of service.
The flysheet is very waterproof (rated to 5000mm) with a fire-retardant coating which will self-extinguish if exposed to flame.
Every OEX tent comes with a waterproof 'split bag', letting you divide the tent into two parts and share the carrying load. Each carry bag has pre-spaced buckle loops, so you can easily attach them to the outside of the OEX Vallo Rucksack. •Split waterproof carry bags (1 x for tent outer / 1 x for poles & bedroom) •Reflective piping
