Love this tent vert spacious sleeping area to sleep as a family with young children. Really quick and easy to pitch takes my husband and myself half an hour on our third attempt. Would recommend this tent to any family's. Our model is a vrx scenic 5.0 has no side porch we bought is second hand for £60 and we think it was a bargain

I had never pitched a tent of this kind before, my only experience being with a ridge tent in 1996 and with our summer being a complete wash out I hadn't had an opportunity with a dry day to practice so when we arrived at the campsite, in a gale, this was our first time!

Everything went to plan and the poles went together pretty quickly and we erected the outer with little difficulty however, we were stuck trying to understand how the pins were inserted into the poles as the instructions were not too clear on this, we eventually worked it out and the rest went together with few problems. Once up the tent was very sturdy and it needed to be as the wind and rain were relentless for 4 days and although the noise inside was tremendous we were kept dry and reasonably warm. Apart from the basic instructions we feel confident that next time the tent will go up quicker now we have done it and the only bad point about it is the weight of the poles but after saying that we were grateful for their strength!

Three splendid weeks on a sea site. We are only two and we enjoyed the roomy of the partitions. Sleeping area has been comfortable and we tested the living area during two days of heavy rain ( dogs and cats level ).

Sturdy and well insulated thanks to the double skin.

I feel my money have been spent for value. Highly recommended

April 2009 - first time out in this tent. It is just perfect for myself and my two children, or if my other half decided to come too, there would be room for him as well. The previous reviewer - Hastings Camper has summed up this tent very well, and there isn't much I can add to it. We had heavy rain and strong gusty winds during one night, the tent had no problem with it though, I presume the six storm straps helped. The tent is easy to put up (I managed it with just the two children - 7 and 10 years old) and take down. The highest of the inner clips, (that clip the inner to the flysheet) are quite high, and as I'm only 5'3', I needed a stool to stand on to reach. I would definitely recommend this tent, and cannot wait to go camping again!

This is a great, roomy tent. There is standing room throughout and plenty of space for all your gear. As a couple we had more than enough room, and I think for a small family it would be fine too. The other thing we really like about this tent is the fact that the living area and bedroom are all part of the large sewn-in groundsheet inner tent. So you can exit your bedroom in the morning, step into your nice clean living room with no nasty drafts, leaves or creepy crawlies coming in from outside.

Particularly useful features include two porches. These are not part of the sewn-in groundsheet area, and therefore are perfect for leaving muddy things. One is to the side and makes a good kitchen area. Alternatively, with its standing height door, it makes a great lobby area where if it's raining you can strip off your muddy gear before entering the living area. The other porch is at the front and is the full width of the tent. The door of this is massive and has a big window. When opened up poles are provided to make a sun canopy.

Putting up this tent for the first time in gusty conditions took an hour and 10 minutes. I think it will take us a while to meet the 30 minutes given by the manufacturer. However, the actual method of erection is fairly straight forward. Being a steel-poled tunnel tent means that once all the poles are in, getting it into the air and then pegged out is pretty quick. It has a reassuringly sturdy construction. Being a large and fairly heavy tent you will need two people to get it up.

I've noticed people who own the model down from this one, the Outdoor Revolution Scenic 5.0i have had problems getting the poles in straight. We didn't have any problems like this. What was a bit tricky at first was getting the steel pins into the bottom of the poles. You have to remember when putting it up and taking it down to loosen the tensioning straps near these pins. Also, when taking the tent down it can be a bit difficult to get the steel poles apart. It needs a bit of jiggling to loosen them.

Something else that puzzled us at first were 3 long straps running across the base of the outer tent from side to side. Once the tent was up I could see their point. As the outer is not the bit with the sewn-in groundsheet, there would be nothing to keep the sides from splaying out while you are in the middle of putting it up. These ground-level cross straps run between the ends of each of the three poles and keep the right distance between them.

Nice features inside the tent are pockets into which you can stuff the doors. Every door has a mesh panel which you can have open for ventilation or zipped up for warmth. Doors from the living area to the bedrooms have this too. Along the top edge of the back wall of the bedroom area is a small mesh panel which does not have a zip-up which makes it permanantly open. On the outside of the tent over this area is a ventilation panel. It has zips so it can be closed or opened. Guy lines can keep it open when you want the maximum ventilation. Maybe because of the very well-thought out ventilation system we did not suffer from condensation at all. Even though it rained on the first night we used it, none came in.

All in all this is a fantastic tent, and I have only given it a 9/10 rather than a 10/10 because it's heavy to carry. However, for that you get a very large, sturdy tent. The tent is carried in two bags anyway which makes carrying easier. Packing away is facilitated by a generously sized carry bag - no squeezing and sweating trying to cram the tent into it.

For those of you who would like to see this tent up before buying it, you may have a problem. We searched the entire South East of England to no avail. In the end we bought it at a very good discounted price off an internet retailer sight-unseen. We have not been disappointed.

Manufacturer's Description

The Scenic Premium 5.0i is an incredibly versatile 5 berth tent with the addition of a side porch giving the facility for a wet area or cooking area. The steel pole construction makes this model very rigid and sturdy and the popular stability strap system ensures maximum performance in the most inclement of weathers. The design is very modern with stylish shaped windows and a striking new colour way. The groundsheet is anodised for better heat retention and the flysheet is erected first and the whole inner simply clips into the eyelets provided. This model is ideal for a family searching for something modern looking and versatile to optimise the camping experience.
