10 Reviews of the Idaho L

By: York Alty  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2007   Rating:

Excellent tent, we used ours heavily for six years and were reluctant to admit that its best day were behind it. I was going to buy another but I notice it's been discontinued. A shame, an absolutely classic tent. The rooms were airy, the ventilation good. The 'privacy curtains' across the entrance to the rooms was a great way of keeping the tent living area tidy. I'll miss that tent!

Spent 2 weeks in this tent and enjoyed every minute. Erecting the tent was very straightforward, once we watched the Outwell video as the written instructions are quite basic. The thermometer, as expected, stuck at 60 degrees. No instructions re the bathtub groundsheet so ours was probably in backwards! Very spacious, enough headroom in the main room, bedroom pods and dressing areas so no stooping. Plenty of room for table and bench set, 2 chairs, fridge etc and the storage pockets held all the cluttery bits and bobs. Very stable, and we never needed to touch the guy ropes all the time we were there. We also got the footprint which we found very useful to scope out the pitch before erecting the tent, as well as keeping the SIG dry. Only 2 small niggles - I agree with Keith B about the front door, we had our kitchen in the porch area and with the wind we couldn't keep the outer front door/window open all the time, and it was a pain having to keep opening/closing the whole huge outer door for access. (Perhaps a utility tent would be better). Also with using the hanging rail - the curve of the bedroom doors goes into the back of the dressing space so when going in and out of the bedrooms we were constantly bumping into the clothes etc, if the door opened the other way towards the standing area of the space, it would be easier, but that is being extremely picky, I know. A great family tent though I think it would be snug with 3 in each bedroom. We'll be getting the carpet to make things even cosier.

Idaho l oh yes, this has to be every campers dream, we purchased the lot footprint, tent, carpet and the front extension!.Expensive but worth every penny lots of room and very warm. This tent has everything space for dressing and changing in the wardrobe areas with hanging rails for clothes and endless pockets. These are in front of the bedrooms and have curtains you can pull down too. A large living area for tables and chairs, fridge, blow up settee and more, then there's the front entrance extension a MUST we had all our cooking equipment and a table in there with lots of room! and sheltered from the elements. We housed everything needed had space to cook, change, and chill out. My favourite bit is being able to take your coats and shoes of under the ext and be dry before even unzipping the tent with the pram and wheelchair in there as well. Also when my boys were asleep at night you could have the main tent door open with the inner closed so you could check through the zip down window.(the Montana doesn't have this second door! and neither can you house you kitchen equipment in the extension! or get into your tent without getting wet!).

I know this as our neighbours had the Montana and had to put the kitchen stuff outside under a tarpaulin. We even had a family with a Montana in our tent for viewing and they loved it! so all said and done the purchase of a lifetime. I would like to add that the changing area in front of boys bedroom had a table which the dvd players were on and there was still space it never got knocked over once, and the area in front of the other bedroom had the suitcases in all 3. Top tip leave the doors unzipped and roll inwards from front and back of tent (not sides), and then your tent will fit snugly back in the bag. As you can tell I love this tent and so will you go on and buy it!

Superb tent.

Excellent headroom throughout and the central living area is very roomy. Plenty of pockets, two hanging rails and bedrooms you can stand up in!

All the usual outwell combinations of window and door opening options eg vents only, sealed, curtains and vents.

The front extension is excellent but even without it the porch has plenty of space to store things and given the width of the porch none of it will be in your way

No leaks and stood up to some very wet and windy weather.

Easy to put up after a quick practice (or two)and fits back in the bag if you keep the front and back doors open a bit to let the excess air out when rolling up

This tent is exactly what I have been waiting for, excellent size bedrooms which are separated by a fantastic living area large enough for table and chairs and more. We have the front extension which I feel completes the outfit, although for a weekend the built in porch will suffice and is large enough to take our kitchen unit, the extension has made our Khyam day tent redundant! I find the carpet makes it really snug but features like hanging rails and storage pockets make this tent 10/10 for me.

The Idaho L is a great tent & easy to erect. We are a family of 3 & whilst this tent is sold as a six man tent I think that would be a squeeze. Have just camped in torrential rain for the weekend and had one small leak in living area roof otherwise all was sound. The front porch detachable bath tub groundsheet remained dry too. We were in two minds whether to buy the additional front canopy & were so glad we did. When the weather is poor it is a god send. No regrets.

We recently purchased the Idaho L online after previously owning and enjoying many holidays in a Vango Diablo 400. We opted for the Idaho L as we thought the extra space would be an advantage (two adults and 1 child) and particularly liked the look of the dressing area and the fact that you can stand up in the bedrooms.

It was relatively easy to erect, however dismantling and fitting into the bag caused a few problems, this might be because this was our first outing and performed in the wind!

With the large internal space and the single skin we felt it wasn't as warm as the Diablo, well it is the beginning of May after all.

The porch area was used for cooking and housing the other 'kitchen' equipment but the slope of the door meant there wasn't as much room as we were used to - I'll just have to reconfigure the equipment or leave some of it at home:-)

The main door would benefit from the inclusion of a smaller door (not as wide) as getting in and out of the main door was a bit of an ordeal (particularly in the dark or in the rain).

All in all a good tent, worth the money, we just felt there could have been a few additions to make this a great tent.

We Bought an Idaho L this year, it is amazing, if you can't decide what tent to get make sure that is Outwell and the Idaho if fab. We couldn't decide between the Montana or the Idaho and in the end we decided on the Idaho because we thought it had more space. And it has, its perfect for us, 2 adults, 2 children and a dog. We went camping in a local campsite to try it out and the first night it poured with rain and we had gale force winds. The tent stood up to all of it, fantastic, no leaks, no water got in. Fab.

This is such a remarkable tent, I went camping this year with my husband and 2 kids and the dog, it rained all week with such bad winds but this tent stayed strong and completely waterproof. If you are thinking of buying a tent I would recommend this for it has lots of room, holds up great to heavy rain and strong winds. You can walk in this without having to bend, there is nothing I don't like about this

What a fantastic tent! Everything about it is perfect. Considering its size, its easy and quick to erect. The quality throughout is excellent. It withstood lots of rain and strong winds without any problems. The attention to detail is impressive too. I especially like the dressing area and hanging rail for clothes. The living space is huge and the porch area is ideal for cooking. All in all, a well thought out, top quality, spacious family tent. Cant wait for next holiday.
