6 Reviews of the Halo 200
By: Caligula Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2019 Rating:
Just to add to my earlier review: I have been using this tent on a multi day wild camp/canoe trip in the Scottish highlands and lochs, and it proved in every way imaginable, superb. Even when on rock, being freestanding, one can get this tent up and used.
My ONLY small critique is that at 6' 4', it could be a little longer than 215 cms quoted. I tended to sleep diagonally.
No condensation at all, warm/cool, very adaptable and can be packed very small if poles packed separately.
Excellent

What is a lightweight tent? Compared to the likes of OneTigris or MSR, this may not be considered lightweight.
But for what it is, a roomy, double skin semi geodesic, robust tent, capable of being almost anywhere. It is lightweight and emminently backpackable.
The Vango tent is one of a huge and sometimes confusing range, but this is a genuine two berth tent.If you are both shorter than six foot. At 6'4'.It is JUST long enough for me, where the Banshee 200 wasn't, and the Max, a longer Banshee has been discontinued. Extra space is also given by the more vertical sides to the inner tent and higher maximum height, It also has two.Larger porches on the sides. The whole tent has been designed to provide shelter with the porches and side entrances, irrespective of wind direction. The same thought goes inside the tent, with an abundance of pockets and a hanging loop for a light. The inner doors have a large and coverable mesh window, giving better than average ventilation in this tent. There are 2 further roof vents.
Such is the design, that all poles being identical, it doesn't matter which goes where, and the structure being then self supporting, final positioning is a doddle.
When guyed out, it is a very solid structure. The guy lines are excellent with StaLok sliders.
The hydrostatic head is very high for any tent in this price bracket, and the tent has an excellent reputation for looking after you and it's weather resistance.
Takes no more than minutes to pitch.
Jack of all trades and Master of none? No, it's a master of a helluva lot.
A seriously capable and versatile little tent. (also available as a larger 300.)

Bought one of these after reading the reviews and have found them to be right. A great little tent which I have used 3 times in Wales in wind, rain and sun. Love the porch areas and handy storage pockets. Having the choice of two doorways and being geodesic it doesn't move in the wind. Great for stowing on my motorbike and enough room for all my biking and hiking gear. Be a squeeze with 2 people though.

I seriously love this little tent! Despite being used to large canvas tents filled with lots of equipment, I find the Halo very spacious for one person. The dome shape means it is possible to sit up comfortably and the two porches can store a surprising amount of kit. I particularly like the fact that the two entrances are on the sides - there is no claustrophobic feeling of crawling into a tunnel and there's plenty of room to get in and out.
Pitching is easy as all three poles are identical and the tent can be pitched as one. If I were to go wild camping, this would be the tent I would take as the green flysheet would blend into the countryside. In contrast, the inner is a cheery, warming orange.
So far I haven't used the tent in strong winds or torrential rain so can't comment on how it would stand up to bad weather. With a hydrostatic head of 5000mm and its stable dome design I would expect a good performance.
There are two small triangular vents, one at each side of the top, but these don't provide sufficient ventilation to prevent condensation with one person inside on a frosty night. However, the problem is easily remedied as the top section of each inner door is insect mesh with a zip up cover. Unzipping these sections at least partway allows plenty of airflow through the tent and prevents condensation.
It's a bit of a stretch to get hold of the bottom of the porch zip while trying to remain in the inner tent at the same time. It's also possible to open the porch zip from the top to have a peep outside in the morning, or perhaps to lie in the tent on a clear night and look up at the stars!

I bought this for use on Dartmoor supporting Ten Tors team training. As I don't have to carry it all the time I get the luxury of a good sized 2 man tent to myself, it would easily accommodate 2 adults with the two porches for boots/rucksack/trangia etc.
The dome shape is ideal for the worst that Dartmoor can throw at a tent as it doesn't matter if the wind shifts direction (as it usually does) and you have doors on opposite sides so you can easily choose the downwind one. The poles are all the same length which I find helps at the end of a cold wet day but they are quite a tight fit the 1st time out. This has slackened off a little with use but it can still be a bit of a struggle on your own. The inner attaches easily into the fly but I would have liked the toggles to be a little larger so that they can be handled with gloves on. The only bit that really had me foxed was unclipping the clips that link the groundsheet inner to the tensioning straps of the fly. This is practically impossible to do when the tent is still pitched. I only managed by unpegging the poles to reduce the tension then twisting the plastic caribiner to undo it, I'm not sure how long they will stand up to this sort of treatment and I may have to replace them with something easier to undo.
In general a sturdy, spacious two man tent that has repeatedly stood up to some serious weather. A little too heavy for one person to carry alone but great for two if you split it. With a few design tweaks it would be perfect but for the price (I paid about £100 in Jan 2013) it is great value.

I have the green and orange one - not 100% sure it is 2011 as may have been a discounted one from the previous year's stock. Originally purchased for 2 children to share as having 2 porches meant they could each have their own entrance and place to store boots and bags. Did consider the 300 but (unusually) this 2-person tent does actually have enough room for 2 to sleep comfortably. Dimensions may have changed now but the 3-person was not much wider for the extra price and weight. Have not used this tent for backpacking but suspect it is a little heavy although recommended for DofE. I wanted something which looked sturdy enough to stand up to possible high winds and bad weather.
I now use this tent myself and it is ideal for 1 adult with room to keep some bags inside. Have not used it alone without another tent for gear storage - so may not be good if not backpacking and not on a site which allows cars by tents. I have had no problems in use but it is very difficult to bend the poles etc into shape when putting it up and best done by 2 people. One of the poles did get bent when my son tried to put it up by himself; however it survived the rest of the trip. You can get spare pole sections online which can be cut to size with a hacksaw and I recommend you do this as there is no pole repair sleeve in the repair kit which comes with the tent.
