2 Reviews of the Odyssey 200
By: Flysplat Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2001 Rating:
Having read some of the comments about UV degradation I thought I'd add my experience.
I had a purple Odyssey for about 5 years up to 1998 having been brought up on Force 10's. It was used for occasional trips to the Lakes, Wales & Scotland for backpacking so rarely left pitched during the day. On one trip someone tripped on a guyline and the flysheet ripped like tissue paper. Sound familiar?
I contacted Vango who gave the usual UV degradation excuse, no offer of replacement, discount or any acknowledgement of a manufacturing fault.
Fortunately the tent was insured and the insurance company were more understanding and paid out for a new tent.
I bought a Terra Nova Super Quasar 16 tears ago and its still in 'like new' condition.
Later a couple of Vango retailers did acknowledge to me that there were problems with the purple Odyssey but Vango would never acknowledge it.

Good stable mountain tent. Inner pitch first, quite roomy inside, room for three in a squeeze. The example in the picture is getting a bit old now and there are now more modern versions by differing brands but still used as intended although the yellow and purple colour may not be to everyones liking

Manufacturer's Description
A tent that is at home beside a Lowland lake, but more than capable than withstanding fickle Himalayan weather. 8.5mm 7001 T6 alloy poles and a Hytex 6000 Flysheet (Hydrostatic head of 6000mm) and a Hytex 8000 groundsheet (Hydrostatic head of 8000mm) all contribute to its strength. I have used the tent in 80 mph buffeting winds combined with driving rain and it has easily withstod this. Dual porches make for more covienient exit/entrance according to the weather. The tent can withstand heavy snowloading thanks to its geodesic design. A tent that can be relied on. Comes with a repair kit as standard and pointed super strength alloy pegs.
