6 Reviews of the Zeal 500

We bought this tent in an attempt to 'downsize' when out on the motorbike, it only weighs 11kg which in comparison to our other tent (Vango Orchy 500) which weighs in substantially more, sounds like a better option, We used it for the first time in May at a bike rally up North, on the coast right on the cliff edge, strong winds and torrential rain overnight, the tent held firm, felt very secure and had more than enough room for the 2 of us, we did not however do any cooking etc in the tent as we normally do in the orchy, there just isn`t the space for it in the porch, We were very impressed with the pitching time, from start to finish in a stiff breeze it took about 15 mins,Bad points? The sleeping area door is mahoosive and only has a single zip :-( it could really do with a double zip,if you want to sit outside or cook outside then you really could do with king poles for the awning or get the canopy, though if your going to go for the canopy and weight is not a problem I would use the extra money and look for an orchy. Still a very nice tent, I only gave it 9 stars because of the single zip on the door and the porch groundsheet is not sewn in.We will be taking it on all our trips out on the bike and leaving the orchy 5oo for when we are out in the car. I saw the Vango Zeal 500 plus canopy for a bargain price - well it would be rude not buy it wouldn't it! So far its been used for 5 nights by 4 of us in camp beds (very snug) and a weekend for 4 of us on SIMS (more spacious). On testing for 5 nights we had significant rainfall on 3 nights and the tent was cosy and dry. The canopy is a must for more than weekends if there is any chance of rain and you really need to park nearby due to lack of storage space.

One way that I have resolved this is by using Outwell Posadas campbeds as you then get a fair amount of under bed storage.

We are taking this tent on a 2 week touring trip in Aug so that will be a good test; it's super quick to pitch and roomy enough for a base for 4 if you just want to sleep in it. However, for 2 it would be a palace!

This tent is perfect for weekends away and touring although we have camped in this tent for more than a week. Very easy to pitch, two poles and your away. The inner sleeping area is large but you cannot get anything more than luggage in the living area. The canopy is a must for a table, chairs and a stove. I have had to rebuild my poles because both sections snapped in very light wind, I used all the pole sections from my old Vango colorado which were thicker and far better manufactured. Very pleased with the tent now I have sorted the pole issue.

I have used this tent several times and it is very good. It's really quick to put up and very spacious. We have recently bought the canopy for it too.

There are however a couple of things I would change;

1. In the inner tent, it is one big compartment. I think it would be better if there was an option of making it into two sections with a folding sheet or something.

2. When it was windy (really windy) it didn't feel as secure as other tents I have been in.

I bought this tent for £150 with the canopy and next day postage. Its only 2 poles so really easy to put up even on my own. Lots of bedroom space and enough room to sit and cook in the porch area. 2 big windows with roll up curtains. I bought the black one and was a little worried about it being dark inside but it was fine and the only trip I have used it on so far was miserable weather! it rained a lot with very bad winds! the tent stood up to it :-)

There are 2 problems with it though. There is no ehu zip and the bedroom door is only a one way zip. Its a huge door so could have done with a double zip especially as there is nowhere for the ehu to come in.

Having said that its still a great tent.

A tent to walk into, tall enough to stand in, which is why I bought it. Great for weekends or longer if you're happy cooking and living outside.

Enough room in the porch for a couple of chairs but needs a pair of king poles to sit the front door/awning upright and extend the living space. The porch is big enough to remove wet gear in when closed down but the majority of the space is innertent. Easy twin hoop tunnel design and the Vango adjustable tension straps to pull it into shape.

I set up (solo) in a medium wind which was easy enough, and then the rains came down in torrential fashion, no signs of a leak after two nights of blatting down, and with the decent hooded vents no condensation problems to speak of either.

The porch(vestibule) groundsheet's attached at the inner only so can be moved out of the way if it gets too wet.

Lots of pockets in the inner for stashing personal stuff but they're fabric not mesh so finding things again can be a game. It appears to have plenty of room for four full airbeds and room for gear, but as I only had one bed and one chair I wasn't able to check this
