4 Reviews of the Zephyros 1

By: Kenb  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2013   Rating:

Initially, I was quite pleased with this tent.

It was a very good price and it seemed to be sturdy. There is plenty of room in the porch for a couple of panniers . I am 170cms tall and there was enough room to sit up and lie down in it. It survived a heavy downpour. So what was not to like?

One was the fact that the end pole holders split after 4 nights and for the rest of the tour were held in with gaffer tape.

The other was the lousy service I received from the manufacturers. It bordered on the dismissive and took a long time to sort out after being ignored because of a 'change in personnel.'

They can make superlight tents but quality control might not be as good.I hope it has been improved since last year

This review is based on 1st impressions and a quick overnight in the garden so please bear that in mind.

After watching a quick vid on youtube on how to best pitch the tent I reckon I got it up in less than 5 minutes. Pegged out and nice and taught.

It's a decent size for 1 man but the inner is still a little like a coffin. I prefer bigger spaces but that's just me.

Pitching couldn't be easier.

After a night of heavy rain and a bit of experimenting with a hose pipe I can confirm than the tent is pretty waterproof.

Can't comment on the wind resistance, as it was a calm night.

Packed, the tent is nice and light but the pack size isn't significantly smaller that my banshee 300. Some compression straps on the sack would be nice.

I suppose the question would be, would I take the banshee or the Zephyros? Well, if weight were a consideration or just being lazy then I would take the WC.

If I wasn't too fussed about the weight and didn't mind the extra faff of getting the banshee nicely pegged out I would probably take the banshee.

All in all a very nice tent, worth the money.

Only used this tent twice, once on a wild camp and once in a basic site.

I think its an excellent one man tent given the price and how light it is.

Also just enough room to get a brew on inside if raining. I made a small alloy pole to hold door flap up like a small awning and can cook half in and half out of the tent if raining.

I also changed to lighter guy lines and line locks.

The only other change I made was to carry a small length of guyline attached to a small light plastic clothes peg. This was used to keep the outer door open if good weather as there is no toggles or anything to do this, so the door just flaps about when open unless I am using the awning method.Lol.

I tie one end of the guyline to the bottom of the door, pull door over the tent and secure to pegging point with other end of the guyline attached to the clothes peg. Works a treat and no knots to tie or untie and quickly removed if it suddenly rains.

To summarise it is a great little tent and stands up to wind and driving rain that I have experienced.

I can't fully sit up in the inner but almost.

Its a doddle to erect and take down and fits in its bag no problem. Would recommend.

Have backpacked this tent now on 3 of the National trails as well as numerous nights wild camping. For a one man tent I find it very spacious compared with others I've had,and the porch is plenty big enough to leave your bag and boots in.Replaced the standard pegs with titanium ones and have added an extra guy line to the rear after an extremely windy night on top of The Cheviot. The tent has stood up very well weather wise, fits easily into my bag and I've no plans to change it.
