9 Reviews of the Rivendale 800XL Airbeam

By: Taafe75  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2017   Rating:

We have had this tent about two years now and I have to say it is excellent.

I would drop it a point for not having ventilation along the back to allow better air flow through the tent as it does get warm on hot days but I have just bought the Sky shield and sky liners so I am hopeful this will reduce the inside temperature of the tent.

I also have the sun canopy for the tent and this has changed the front entrance room area from the kitchen into basically another room in the tent.

We generally use this tent for the two of us but as it is meant to be an 8 person tent it is great when friends come away camping with us as well.

I would recommend this tent to anyone

I have recently bought the rivendale 800xl and have to admit to being very happy with my purchase. As of yet I have not had to try and put it back in the bag yet so will update when I have done that. Although my experience with this tent has been very brief I have noticed a couple of areas that could do with some improvement. The front part of the tent has no center Guy line so in a wind that comes direct on to the tent the front beam bends inwards, the other thing I think could be added is a couple of small beams that could be inflated and used as a brace between beam 1 and beam 2 this would help with the front collapsing in.

On first pitching the tent the center beam inflated and within a hour had lost all pressure I checked the valve but it appears there is no leak there.

So I Contacted Outdoor world direct from where I purchased it and the response from David was amazing it was late friday afternoon and he did not hesitate in getting me a replacement beam sent to site where I am camping at the moment, the replacement arrived pre 10 am. I cannot thank this man enough he went above and beyond anything I have ever experienced before.

The tent is very roomy and airy so condensation does not appear to be a problem.

Pitching including the footprint and tent took approximately 30 minutes, not bad I thought for my first pitch of a tent I have no experience of.

All in all a great tent it just needs a couple of small improvements to make it incredible.

Just back from campsite near Fowey on Cornish coast where winds had been forcast to 40/45 mph gusts .

No idea what they reached but the wind did actually howl around the tent at times.Tent was solid all night and the next day after I took the roof liner off to play it safe ,needed to change angle of guy ropes to stop back 2 beams bending in then popping back up .

Once these were angled back over by about 45 degrees instead of square on it was fantastic in the wind and have no worries it could cope with just about anything

A very sturdy tent for its size 10/10 for stability

We have had our tent up for all of July by the coast (30 nights) in total and for 2 other short breaks. It coped very well in all weathers.

I agree with other posts with regards to the pegs which come as standard, they are very poor. I used pegs we had bought separately. I also changed the guy lines to Hi Vis Yellow ones.

The tent is very heavy but once you get it to your pitch it's very easy to put up. The living space is amazing (previously had a 4 berth tunnel tent). Also we didn't have any problems with condensation which was a constant issue in our smaller tents, I think due to all the extra vents which you can open/close as you choose.

I had some small issues with rain pooling on the groundsheet in the porch from the runoff from the front of the tent but I think I didn't have the awning flaps correctly positioned, still not sure whether they should be folded in or out. Ended up with them folding out which reduced the pooling.

When I unpacked the tent in April it was actually missing the airbeam in the porch but the seller delivered one to us within 24 hours and we were able to fit it ourselves.

Love this tent only used once so far ,first outing had to put it up in the rain so it was good to be able to peg out and blow the beams up in about 10 mins, pegged out about another 15mins,built in porch is great for unloading the car into if its raining.

No problems with any leaks or puddles from condensation.

Only scored 9 out of 10 as the guy ropes had to be changed for hi viz ones as the fitted ones where hard to see (photos posted before and after).

Plus the pegs and holdall bag seemed very cheap for the price of this tent.

However don't let this put you off pegs are easy to upgrade I also purchased the footprint and skyliner so I would think this tent will last me a lot of years

Update: had a fantastic 4 day break in Croyde, tent coped admirably with a few very heavy downpours, water ran straight off as expected and no leaks! Lovely space, plenty of light, better sized sleeping pods as well. Front canopy very versatile. We really are pleased with the tent.We bought the skylight roof cover as well and were glad we did as tent tall and difficult to towel off the moisture to aid drying prior to packing up. At least this way the roof is dry under the cover. Ventilation far better than our old tent. Getting it back in the bag is fine as long as you follow the Attwoolls video, but the bag, with no wheels, really is silly!

We have just returned from a glorious bank holiday weekend at Ullswater in our brand new Rivendale 800XL and must say it was absolutely fantastic. Lovely big roomy tent but did get very hot inside. No problems at all with pitching and setting up. Very easy. My problem is the packing away (only took minutes to get out and up)The instructions say to let down the tubes by turning the valves to the 'open' position, which is 45 degrees from the closed position but there is still air trapped inside unless one of you walks/crawls along the beam pushing it out whilst the other one holds the valve open! Surely Vango made it easier than this! The only other negative is trying to fit the tent back in it's 'oversized' bag! Now that's a laugh.Had three trial runs and it has only just fitted back in twice. The pump was originally in the centre of the roll.No chance of that happening now.May be time to contact Vango for advice but i'm not holding my breath. A friend has a 2015 airbeam by Vango and he says the whole valve assembly comes out leaving in effect an open tube.I too have seen the Attwool's method and this doesn't work either. You don't actually see them putting the tent back in it's bag.Odd that. :-)

Well, traded our old faithful Infinity 800 for a Rivendale 800XL as we got sick of fighting the the awning on the Infinity! Have tested it in the garden -very fast to put up, half as wide again, lot more light and brilliant integral front canopy. Struggled to get it back into it's oversize (?) bag. But have looked at the Attwoolls video and we didn't do it right! Looking forward to using it over the Bank Holiday. My only carp is the bag, hence the 9/10. The Infinity had a sturdy wheeled bag with grab handles. This one is just a bag with shoulder straps. Tent very heavy, I'm a bird. Can see I will be dragging it between the car and the pitch on an old tarp as if hubby not around I will not be able to carry it!
