For us, this is definitely the Rolls Royce of all tents. It is a spacious family tent that does exactly what it says on the tin. It is a 4 berth that actually sleeps 4 comfortably and is classed as a storm tent and it withstands any weather thrown at it.

The attention to detail is incredible and the finish is top quality.

Add a varioluifel and it doubles the already large living space. Or a sun canopy and side panels also create a large outdoor place to hide from the elements.

Easy to pitch and even easier to fold, roll and get back in the bag.

Brilliant :)

This is not a cheap tent and as stated by Martin, the price is just for the basic tent.

Extras obviously cost more but are optional.

This is a tent that will last a very long time

Love it :)

This is the best tent in the world bar none. Insanely expensive, the price listed is for the basic tent and none of the essential extras such as sun shades and windbreaks which easily takes it over the £2K mark but the (sort of) good news is that they can be picked up reasonably cheaply second-hand in Holland. Like Kiek says below, if ever my tent dies I will just buy another De Waard Albatros.

I'm giving it 9/10 just because of the pain of hammering in all those damn pegs in the right order which is a bit unfair baring in mind it's those pegs and guys that make this tent the strongest most wind resistant tent on the face of the planet.

We bought our Albatros in 1991. Since then we used it for four weeks every summer. Mainly in the English climate (lots of rain and storms) It is still in excellent condition. It comfortably sleeps 4 adults but when the children were smaller we all fitted in.

It's storm resistance is top, and it still looks like a real tent.

If, ever it will die, we will buy a new Albatros.

My friends have got the Albatross, which I've stayed in, and I've got the Albatross Junior which is the two berth version, now discontinued.

These are amazing tents. They have a completely sewn in groundsheet. There is a central pole which is where the divide is for the sleeping and living areas. There is a curtain dividing the two areas which can be tied back during the day. The four berth version also has a curtain dividing the sleeping area into two. You can buy inner tents for the sleeping areas, however, De Waard only recommend these are needed if you are planning to go camping halfway up a mountain or in extreme conditions.

There are two door panels which roll up. You can order alternative panels, the main ones have a window with a canvas 'curtain' for privacy and you can have extra panels with fly mesh which roll up out of the way when not in use and can zip into the place of one of the door panels. There is also an extra of a triangular shaped canvas panel with different size pouches which attaches to the piece of canvas next to the door panel for storage. There are hooks you can get which fit over the central pole to hang things from, such as a light or coats.

Extras include side wind panels and two different types of canopy, the largest of which almost doubles the size of the tent. The variable canopy can zip onto the side panels and in bad weather can literally come down to the floor so you can batten down the hatches, or can be put up in different ways using a combination of poles to protect from the wind whichever direction it is coming from.

The downsides are that this is a very heavy tent, made with good quality canvas, heavy metal poles and a lot of pegs. It's not a quick put up.

The plus side is that it looks fantastic and is great in all weather. You also don't need any extra things like windbreaks and kitchen tents or gazebos. In the four berth version living area we have had two camping tables with eight people sitting down for a meal.

This is the Rolls Royce of tents.

Manufacturer's Description

The tent it all started with 60 years ago. The Albatross is a family tent with two bedrooms, and one room of eight square meters. This makes a great living area and rainy days a lot more pleasant.

The wide entrance has a headroom of 215 cm. The high degree of shelter makes the Albatros a comfortable four-person family tent no matter the weather.

Many details have been improved in the 2015 model.
Fewer guylines make the tent a lot easier to put up.
Beautiful awning and windbreaks are optional.
