1 Reviews of the Basic
By: Ottaway66 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2015 Rating:
My wife found ours second hand, 12 months old and used once last year. I was scepticle to start off with as I've never really enjoyed camping before and certainly didn't think I would now with 2 kids.
That said, we took it away twice last year after getting a car to tow it with (2010 Honda CRV EX - worth every penny!) and I'm converted. It's excellent, so much easier and more effective than a tent and not costly to keep like a caravan, it's just a perfect home and home. We went to Porth for a week in late august and it was absolutely howling by the time we got there after sitting on the A38 and I was dreading getting set up - but it was fine and I did it on my own in the most part as Mrs O was with the kids.
Pulled it up fine against the weather, got it level (learnt the first time, pack a spirit level) and got it pinned down in under 20 minutes, easy.
There's 2 things that have annoyed me and stop me from giving it 10/10:
1) Some of the internal & external fixings have already broken, I've lost 2 poppers so far and I've got at least 2 of the elastic straps already starting to detach, that's annoying as it's got the decent fabric so trying to repair them is proving difficult. Internally we've had to put one of the bedroom straps back on and the internal skirt has also lost a couple of poppers. Just annoying but not significant.
2) I bent the bloody bedroom ring on the kitchen flip out pole. It's repairable with a piece from Camperlands for £20 and a saw but it's so easily done, I'm going to get a sticker made up to put on the fibreglass to remind me in the future.
I guess the only other issue I have is that all the accessories from Camplet are expensive so I've spent my time finding ways of not feeling ripped off. I've fitted up some Thule roof bars after a lot of research and tinkering which is a load better than the Camplet rack and about half the price - I'll put a guide on the forum as there isn't a step by step for anyone who wants to do it themselves.
Great piece of kit, got a number of trips planned this year and France beckons next year.
