2 Reviews of the Montana Explorer

By: Maggie53  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2001   Rating:

Quick and easy to erect main part but need level ground. Takes much longer to erect the awning but worth it as it doubles the living space for longer stays, ample room for camp kitchen, table and chairs.

We owned one for 13 years, finally sold it to change to a caravan. Wanted something warmer for early and late season.

Although a 4 berth, would be snug for 4 adults but OK for a family.

Ours was the older model without slatted beds, and undefined storage. But we kept table, chairs, and quite a lot of other equipment in it.

I have the older standard Montana (now discontinued), not this Explorer version.

Differences:-

Mine only has a door at rear, new version has one at front as well

Beds in older version are not slatted

There is only a small under bed storage on one side in older one, its quite awkward to get to in older version.

The is no front porch option on older version

The beds are separated by a curtain which is easily taken out of way, this is a good thing as if only two staying you have double the space.

Colours are Blue and grey like in the demo video.

My Comments:-

This is a perfect trailer tent for what I want. I need it to be light as I tow it with a trike. It has loads of room for 2 on a long weekend away and can be put up on my own in about 10 minutes from start to finish. It also is a non peg TT if not using the awning so it can be parked anywhere as long as its level.

There is decent room inside if the beds are in daytime seat mode (only takes a couple of minutes to change from one to the other)

It does NOT have a kitchen, I am not sure if its even an option. I have a fold flat kitchen with a decent little 2 ring stove with grill. Works very well for me.

I also have the awning that doubles the size of the Montana making it more suitable for longer stays. When using the awning it needs to be pegged down so you will need grass for the awning.

As I live in Ireland I am able to report its water proof in very heavy prolonged rain. I have used it 4 times now and also had friends who had one and loved it.

It tows very easily with no wind drag as you would get on a caravan ( I tried a freedom but to much drag and wind effected behind trike)

I bought it second hand and it came with electric hook up and lights, but to be honest I just use it with decent led battery lights and don't need anything else.

All in a cracking bit of kit. We intend to use it for the whole family for a few long weekends with awning this year so will maybe add more info after that.

Hope this has been helpful.
