1 Reviews of the Havana L

By: F13dev  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2001   Rating:

The Conway Havana was sold for approximately 1 year through 1991 and came in 2 forms, the L and DL with the notable difference being that the DL came with a kitchen unit that attaches to the back of the trailer when towing.

My reason for purchasing the Havana was due to it's low price, excellent accommodation compared to a standard tent and ease of towing compared to a full size caravan.

Although the Havana series of trailer tents are capable of supporting 8 births; as standard they accommodate 4 births via 2 double beds, a further 4 births can be added with the use of pup tents that fit under the existing double beds.

Towing:

With a maximum weight of 400Kg (425Kg for the DL) almost any car and person with a post 1997 driving licence can tow this unit making it ideal for younger families or those with smaller engined cars. Despite my car being able to tow 1350Kg we opted for a trailer tent over a caravan for it's reduced storage space as well as it's lower towing weight causing less stress on the car.

Erecting:

The sleeping portion of the tent is extremely simple to erect and can be done by a single person without struggle. The awning is possible to erect single handedly but it is made much easier by having 2 people to help steady the poles whilst fitting them to the main tent.

Space:

I am 6'3' and can happily stand straight in all but the far edges of the awning, as the sleeping area of the tent is raised (in the bed of the trailer) I can stand, but require a bit of a slouch.

The total area of the tent (not including the hitch is 4.2 x 4.7 meters with the awning (living area) being 4.2 x 2.5 meters. Entering the sleeping area there is a small alleyway through the middle with seating either side; past the seating is an almost full size double bed on either side allowing 4 people to comfortably sleep (or 5 in our case as our 3 small children share a double)

Comfort:

Both the double beds built into the trailer tent have thin mattresses which make them fairly comfortable and are raised about 3 foot off the ground stopping any damp and cold that may come through the ground. Each of the double beds has an inner tent/fly sheet with closable ventilation nets.

Conclusion:

If you are looking for a cross between a camping and caravan experience I would recommend a trailer tent; but if you are looking for a vintage experience at the same time, you can't go wrong with a Conway Havana. If you can find one the DL offers a built-in kitchen, but otherwise a table and camping cooker work well.
