4 Reviews of the OEX Coyote III
By: AnalogKid Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2024 Rating:
I've used the Coyote III twice, for 8 days of car camping in total
3 of the days were 1 Celsius, and the tent is fine
(My sleep mat has an R value of 4.6 and the sleeping bag has a comfort rating of 0 Celsius).
The pack size is small (this isn't a back packing tent- unless you split the bags between two people)
This is my 'go to' tent for camps that are 4 days or under.
For 5+ days, I'll take my Roben Cabin 300 (in which I can stand up)
Pitching is easy for 1 person and quick
Quality seems very good
(Looks like there were some tight pole issues in 2022/2023? - but no issues with this 2024 tent)
Good stability in gusty wind.
The Porch is perfect; but would be squeezy with 2 people
For me; this is the perfect 4 day 1 person tent when hiking in Scotland and the Lakes.
I can have all my gear laid out and theres plenty of space for packing and re-packing day packs
Great space for keeping you cooking gear, and enough space for a helinox chair and in very cold weather 'enough space' to sit in the chair at the highest point of the porch to eat with the tent doors closed (after having cooked outside the tent)
In Summer, this would be an ideal 2 person tent; where two people would sit outside the tent for meals etc
I'd buy this tent again in a heart beat - really delighted

Used in spring. Lightweight and takes up relatively little (packed) space. Easy to pitch, with robust pegging points and guylines. Good size for adult and two children. Roomy porch to store kit.
I liked the reflective stripe around the base, for visibility on larger campsites.
Solid, well designed and good quality materials.

I bought one in an emergency after snapping a pole on different tent on the first day of a trip around Scotland. First setup at the campsite took about 20 minutes due to needing to fit the inner tent after pitching the flysheet but after that pitching can be done in around 5-10 minutes solo.
If leaving the inner attached and then pitching all in one you will always have to reach under the flysheet to rehook the bottom corners of the inner tent to the fly and occasionally reattach some of the inner tent toggle attachment points to the flysheet.
Internal space in great for solo camping and would be decent for two but as usual with tent sizing three adults in the tent would be very tight in both sleeping and living areas.
A couple of minor downsides I found are the standard guy lines are really thin and found other people at the campsite kept tripping over them so I changed them with thicker and brighter lines and the light hanging hook in the inner tent is down by your feet.

Easy and quick to erect, though hooking the inner tent to roof of outer is a bit fiddly especially if hands are cold/wearing gloves. The tent performs well in rain and windy weather, the only water ingress has been when opening the door when water runs/ drips onto the groundsheet.
I think 3 people would find it too snug but for two average build people there is plenty of room. The pack splits into 2 bags to distribute weight for backpacking. We have walked with it but other tents would be preferred for long distance trekking.
Small gripe, the ventilation isn't very efficient and condensation builds up when using the tent in winter or icy conditions. Otherwise, we have generally been pleased with this as a general purpose or short stay tent.

Manufacturer's Description
OEX is Go Outdoors mid range brand of tents.
A lightweight and versatile 3 man tunnel tent - updated for 2016 with high quality Yunan T6 poles and a lower profile design.
The OEX Coyote III is the largest tent in the OEX range, letting you camp in comfort, whether solo or with a companion.
The groundsheet is pre-attached, making pitching easy and keeping insects out, while the extended front porch gives you room to relax and plenty of space to store your gear.
Doors on each side let you choose your entry point according to the prevailing wind, and can also be opened as vents when camping in warmer weather.
New for 2016 are the Yunan T6 tent poles which, with their Japanese grade Aluminium and bespoke Korean engineering, are made to perform in all conditions whilst maintaining their integrity over many years of use*.
The durable poly flysheet won't falter in arduous conditions and will give you years of service, being very waterproof (rated to 5000mm) and treated with a fire-retardant coating which will self-extinguish if exposed to flame.
