I bought one of these on ebay in 2018 (not sure of year of manufacture), to introduce my youngest son to the joys of camping. Fairly easy to erect, nice and roomy for two, but some of the features were 'style over substance', the semi-circular window, for example, and the useable length of the inner is not as great as the dimensions suggest, as the tent slopes down gently towards the rear.

But worst of all is its performance in strong wind - I had to retreat from a clifftop wild camp with my son as the whole tent was bucking around in a strong breeze (not a gale), and I didn't want to put him off camping for life!

Fine for fair weather camping, but not really suitable for rough conditions, in my opinion.

It's a fantastic tent, best I've ever owned. Used it many times both summer and winter (one night was -9°C, condensation froze as glass-like sheets on the inside of the flysheet but no condensation on the inner tent. We were warm and dry in Coleman Exponent (Atom 350) sleeping bags.

I don't understand the reviews that say the inner could be longer. I'm 6'4 and the photo was taken with my head just touching the door and my toes are nowhere near touching the flysheet, even if I point them.

I never sleep on my back anyway, I'm on my side with slightly bent knees and have never had a problem with wet feet. Perhaps it's the way they have the pole straps adjusted?

One review mentioned the flysheet at the front could be a little longer to give the porch groundsheet better protection. I agree and the first time it rained we had some puddling in the porch. That was solved by whittling a couple of sticks into pegs to stake it away from the edge. When I got home I made more substantial ones (see photo).

Never had that problem again and no water problems anywhere else - despite some horrendous storms. It withstands whatever weather is thrown at it. Twice it has been one of the only few tents left standing and one time the only one!

The Varioflo ventilation system is outstanding with various vents and opening options available.

I'm still using the original aluminium pegs. None are bent.

I will start using a footprint groundsheet as some have mentioned that over time it can become porous. Mine isn't yet, but I want this tent to last my lifetime. I'm sure it will.

Oh, and the bag it all packs away in doubles as a handy water carrier as the seams in the bag are taped.

I've given it a 10* despite the front groundsheet issue, because everything else is so well designed and it performs.

I have been camping in this tent for 9 years all over UK and Europe. It has served me we well in most weather conditions but its loud in in storms and the groundsheet can let water through if its very wet. Saying that I have put it through its paces in environments that others would only face with expensive expedition tents so all in all its a fantastic value for money. Its a good feeling when you wake up in a morning after a stormy night and you are one of the two tents in a large campsite still standing. Ventilation is adequate for most conditions but can get very hot in summer sun.

My husband and I were looking for a weather hardy tent that was lightweight, roomy and value for money after a particularly bad rainy night in a borrowed tent in 2010; What a find! So easy to assemble we can put it up in 5 mins. We have never had any complaints, its stable in wild windy lake district weather, and utterly waterproof even when you wipe your hand on the roof, sides and floor in a torrential downpour.

During hot sunny weather the venting option in the porch is fab it allows for a handy vent/window as well as the zip up doors.

The only reason we would look for a replacement (or should I say addition) in the future is to invest in a teepee as we are looking to start a family.

I bought this tent to go camping with my biker mates in May last year. We went to Belgium to the Ardenne and had a great time. All of us camping.

The Coleman Phad x3 was easy to put up, easy to take down. Its a bit of a game when you go away with mates as last one to the local bar is buying! With this one you will always be first. It a breeze. For taking on your bike, powered or pedal, its great. There is little weight in it and it sits on the back of the bike with no problem, just bungie it down obviously. There is plenty of space if there is one of you, and maybe two but I would not buy this for three people but that is generally the case IMO. For one person on a bike, all the bits, helmet, jackets, over trousers etc there is enough room. Its a piece of cake to pitch as well just practice first.

The only thing I marked this down on and that is the length. I am 5ft 9' and I found that I was almost touching both ends when laying down. At 5ft 9' I am not tall. I felt that there could have been a little more room in the tent length-wise. Just an observation. I will be using it again this year and like the speed of set up (I thought about my words carefully!), the quality and the fact its lightweight. I have put a youtube video here, if its allowed, that shows how to set it up.

And take down.

I've had a fair few tents in my time, with my last one being a North Face Tadpole. A great tent, with better poles and pegs than the Phad X3, but condensation on the exit door was terrible. This tent though, especially for the money is far superior. I have to say its amazingly stable in high wind and so well designed with the way you Velcro supports to open up the vents on 2 sides and front of the outer fly. You also have the variflow vents on the inner at low level and the inner top part of the door has another mesh vent that can be zipped open for even more ventilation. Another nice touch is the way the inner tents door is stored in its own pocket. The door does not drape on the floor or needs to be tied down. The storage for door also has a small pocket on it for mobile phone. 2 other larger pockets on either side are included too.

Some parts of the outer are reflective and the yellow guys ropes make walking around a lot safer at night. The 2 outer doors open perfectly every time for entrance into the porch. The porch also has its own zipped drop down vent, but does have any mesh. The zip out porch ground sheet is a really nice feature, so in the event that it gets really dirty, you can take it off and wash it, as it dries very quickly.

Just couple of negatives. The poles could have done with being slightly stronger and the groundsheet thicker. As others have said, the peg design is not the best, but I used then ones from my North Face Tadpole. I do wish Coleman would have made a Footprint for this tent too.

All being said, this is a brilliant tent and well worth the money.

Brilliant tent - value for money. I've used it all over the country including storms on the Isle of Skye which it coped with no problem when lots of others were packing up in the middle of the night. Nice and light - easy to put up and take down quickly and packs to the size of a sleeping bag. Recommended!

Keep all cycling gear in porch, sit up and read inside, plenty of room for 2, probably 3 at a squeeze - oh what fun that would be - great tent, light enough for 2 to carry between them on bikes. About 3.8k without case.

Doors on both sides make for easy exits without climbing over the other person, pockets insides to store all valuables, up in minutes, very waterproof as it poured down all one night.

Also very windproof - camped on North Yorks Moors in a real gale, others struggled with their tents, we didn't.

Great little tent - bought it from GO for eighty odd quid, a real bargain. Goes up in five mins, really well thought-out design, very stable in high winds & blizzards, 100% waterproof so far, plenty of room inside. Only problem is the flysheet could extend a little further to give better protection to porch area - when we woke after blizzard in the above photo we had a snowdrift in the porch. Covering our kit.

Our own fault, and pitched with the porch end facing away from the wind (which is what we do now) it wouldn't have happened. Would definitely buy Coleman again on the strength of this tent.

Excellent tent. We use our Phad 3 for just 2 people, which gives us lots of space for us and our bags. It would be a bit cramped for 3 people for more than one or two nights though!

The porch area is large for a tent of this size. I agree with other reviewers that the inner could have done with being about 20 cm longer, but if you put it up really carefully, and make sure to tighten all the straps at the corners of the inner, you will get the maximum length out of it. I'm 5'9' and have only had slightly wet feet / end of sleeping bag once or twice when I've been on a real slope and have slid down into the end of the tent.

This tent is really solid even in strong wind - I use it in winter on Dartmoor. It is very easy to put up with 2+ people, and also possible to erect quickly on your own in strong wind. The pegs may look a bit flimsy, but they have never failed me yet.

The tent goes up outer first, which is useful for keeping the inner tent dry in bad weather. Ventilation is good too.

All in all a great tent.
