2 Reviews of the Breton 300

By: Gilly144  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2016   Rating:

I have just taken my brand new Breton 300 Deluxe away for 2 days on a very rainy weekend. Water got in to the outer groundsheet as soon as I put up the tent and I dried it with a towel and then when I took tent down after 2 nights found that all blankets under my sleeping bag on the floor were wet. Have taken tent to shop and asked for refund. They said it was not damaged, ie no punctures, etc, so it must mean the quality of the groundsheets which the tent are made of are completely useless. Have been camping over 40 years and used tents cheaper than this but have never, never had any issues with leaking as I have done with this. Shame, as I liked the design of it.

I've been looking for a new tent for about a month, every evening trawling t'internet hoping the perfect tent would pop up on the screen. But I just couldn't find one to tick all my boxes and it came down to a toss up between the Vangu Kalu 400 and the Hi Gear Aura 3, nice tents but they both would have been a compromise. THEN I found this website and having looked at every 3/4 person tent under every manufacturer on the list and reading every review, I found the SunnCamp Breton 300 Deluxe. It ticked all of my boxes except price. The best deals I found was £220 approx, £50 above my preferred budget but I did manage to find a Breton 300 2014 model for £170 approx. Happy days.

There are two of us and a small dog so the Breton 300 is perfect, a good sized bedroom that will easily house all of us and a spacious living area for those rainy days and cooler evenings.

Everything is great quality, I won't repeat the review above but you'll have no issues here. One thing that really did suit me better than the Vango and the Hi Gear is that the front is upright. The advantage is that you have more head room inside the tent where as you don't with the other two due to their sloping fronts. In addition you have the half moon canopy so when it is raining you can open the front door without the rain running off your door into your tent. The half moon canopy all gives extra rain protection which the others don't have. (Unless you purchase the extensions)

I am pretty experienced at erecting all sizes of tents so the initial test in the garden took me and the girlfriend about 25 minutes to put up and that includes trips to the glasses of cider we each had. If you haven't put up many tents, your first time may take you a while to figure it all out as the instructions are a bit rubbish, but it does get easier the more cider that you drink! We can get the tent up in about 10-15 minutes plus a little roping and pegging adjustment time, which is handy when you're pitching it in the wind or rain.

Packing away is easy and there is plenty of room in the bag, unlike some tents where you have to make each fold exactly right and have 3 of you lay on the bag in order to close the zip. The bag size is typical for this size of tent and comfortably fits into the Audi TT convertible with our other essentials.

Been out in it in wind and rain and it's very sturdy and not a drip in sight.

One thing that the SunnCamp website or any other site that sells the tent doesn't mention or show is that there is a side door. It also has the mesh unlike the front door and a porch. My 2014 model didn't come with porch poles, but the deluxe (2015) does and it has a front porch too apparently. So I needed to spend £13 to get a pole set. I got a generic set which are more than adequate.

Even though the heavy duty pole couplings are packed away in their own bags (see previous review) one of mine had a crack in it. The tent still went up ok but instead of phoning the supplier I phoned SunnCamp direct. I spoke to a very friendly lady called Rachel who apologised and without any quibbling or requesting any proof of failure or proof of purchase she offered to send a new part out immediately. It came the next day. Rare to get such outstanding customer service these days.

We really like the colour scheme, quite subtle and I also bought 2 matching SunnCamp wind breaks. A number of people have said what a smart looking set up we have. So that's nice.

It's great for 2 people (and a dog) adequate for 3 people and I'd say you could even feel reasonably comfortable with 2 adults and 2 very small children.

So, excellent tent, found only thanks to this website, great customer services from SunnCamp and all of my boxes ticked. And I would say that if you are considering buying a SunnCamp and you can't get of the information you need, just give them a call, they seem very keen to help.
