5 Reviews of the Gites 5
By: Handyrew Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2001 Rating:
Listed as a five berth, but more suitable for two adults and two children.Great tent for two adults.Simple to pitch,I can do it alone, but easier with two.We have had this tent from new,and used it many times and it has never let us down. The inner tent sizes are 1.900x1.800 three berth.1.900x1.200 two berth, with the option to leave one out.If you are looking for a cotton frame tent and see one for sale, buy it,you will not regret it.

Bought this as our first brand new tent for 2 adults to use so we took the larger bedroom and left the other one home. Plenty of room inside for storage and to keep out of the rain if needed. Never let in a drop of water. As mentioned washing line attached to canopy, fab. If poles are colour coded then setting up from start to complete finish with 2 people - 1 1/2 hours. Best tent ever would recommend to anyone, was sad to see it go.

We bought ours off e-bay 3 years ago and have used it countless times since in France/Germany/Denmark and Croatia as well as a couple of times in Britain. I agree with the previous reviews that it's not really suitable for 5 people but is ideal for a couple. We use the small bedroom which only just takes a double inflatable mattress - this gives loads of room in the main tent for all our gear and space for table and chairs if it's raining. The kitchen area is brilliant with plenty room for our kitchen stand/cooker and our fridge. All in all one the best bits of kit we've bought !

We love this tent. As mentioned by Devon Bob forget the 5 people, it is ideal for a couple. We also use the large inner tent to sleep two of us, and leave the other inner behind, just use it for chairs, general storage etc. The kitchen area is great. We love the fact we can cook in the tent. It has a roll up window in the kitchen with a mesh screen. The porch is so useful for shade, shelter any number of uses. Easily erected. Tough sturdy and resilient. We have taken ours to France, and it has stood up to all weathers in this country, we have been on lots of trips and it is still in very good condition. We love the head room and the space. No condensation problems. We love it!

Don't be fooled by the 5 in the tent name, this is an ideal size for 2 adults who want to camp in comfort but put 5 people in it in the rain and murder would probably follow! That said it is very well put together. On each of our last 2 trips we have had over 12 hours of constant gales and the tent has stood up to the weather and never leaked. The kitchen area is useful for cooking indoors, the larger inner tent is just the right size for a double air bed, the smaller inner tent makes a great clothes and boots storage area and the sun canopy allows you to hang things out to dry. The tent packs away into 2 bags that occupy about two thirds of the back seat of a standard saloon car. If you mark the frame so that you know which pole fits into which you can erect the whole thing in less than 30 minutes with 2 people. Old fashioned it may be but it is solid and gives plenty of head room, seating room and sleeping room for a couple who don't want to freeze/get drowned cooking and eating in the open (as seems to be the case with so many modern tents).

Manufacturer's Description
The manufacturer has advised that this model has been discontinued.
Compact but full of features The Gites series of tents is a proven favourite. Every possible extra has been included to make your stay as pleasant as possible, whether it be for just a night or a long holiday. The first thing to impress is the useable head and shoulder room and the large upright kitchen area that allows greater use of the living space. This area is further enhanced by the large picture window with curtains. On hot sunny days you will appreciate the large sun canopy which in bad weather can be rolled away, and ventilation comes from the large closeable panel in the kitchen area. The 5 berth comes with two separate Inner tents (2 + 3) for extra privacy or the possibility of extra living space by omitting one inner tent. The Gites series is the ultimate compact tent.
