8 Reviews of the Kuro 500

By: Mrsmpallas  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2010   Rating:

We have a kuro 500, its a good tent, it has a good size bedroom, and a good size living area, It is easy to put up and to take down, the only problem we had was when it rained it came into the tent from the front entrance so we are after an extension. The extension will give us that extra space, and hopefully keep out the rain

My friends bought it and I have had a chance to spend with them a few nights, so really can give some feedback.

Pros:

Light colours (creamy white living area and light blue sleeping area) gives you very good light balance. It is plenty of light in the living area and enough shade for sleeping. Light colours mean that you won’t be baking as soon sun will rise on the horizon. Definitely better than dark coloured tents.

Tent is extremely easy to pitch, pin and ring system, three poles, few pegs and you are pretty much done, not more than 15 min required.

Tent has really good height. Living area is big enough to fit 2 folding camping beds (used to sit) on sides and table in the middle.

Sleeping area (one room) can easily take king size bed.

Will fit family 2+1

It is a sturdy tent. We have had two rainy, windy nights and wind wasn’t a problem however the rain was.

Cons:

As mentioned before we have had 2 days of rain and can say that there is a design issue with the side doors. Doors zip is protected from top and sides but at the bottom is exposed and does not have any type of protection against water going through (image 15/16). Friends ended up with 15 litre of water inside the tent over 2 days. Fabric is rated 4000mm and is really waterproof but it doesn’t help when all goes through zip.

You may try fixing the zip, taping it, gluing it or whatever is on your mind but I wouldn’t be bothered. For that single design flaw I wouldn’t recommend it.

This is an excellent, well-made tent. We purchased it last year and have preferred to use this than our bigger Vango Amazon 600.

Erecting:

Quick and easy. Three fibre glass poles, easy to insert pins. We have had this tent up in 15mins. If you get the canopy, it is one extra pole. So simple.

Living:

Really good size without the canopy extension. Although there is little front shelte for cooking outside. However, we used a windshield to protect the cooking stuff outside. Living area is nice and cosy with a side opening door. The bedroom is spacious, we had a deluxe double aerobed, and room for bags and dogs bed (a greyhound). Now we use the Outwell double posadas which leaves loads more room.

Ventilation:

Having had this up in the summer and colder times, it keeps really warm with a heater and has great ventilation in the living area and bedroom. All over head height so no crouching.

I would recommend to get the canopy extension which basically gives you the space of the living area at the front and can be fully zipped to protect the kitchen stuff. Also the front doors can be completely unzipped which gives it that outdoor living idea.

I was really impressed with this tent, a would be perfect for a couple on their own or with a child. I would advise buying Nikwax solar/water protection as we had some slight leakage, but since waterproofing it no problems!

We bought the Kuro 500 last year and can tell you its the best tent we have had. And we have had a few. As said, its so easy to pitch takes less the 15 mins when used to it. Ventilation is superb, sig is superb. Would also get groundsheet to save sig from damp & mud when packing. Bedroom is very roomy we have 2 single airbeds and clothes hanger and still have room for space between beds. In the front area we have kitchen stove unit with cupboards either side opposite side door. And table and 2 chairs so plenty of space for all. Side door is best not to use when raining as rain will come in as its on dome side. Easy to dry online if wet when packed.

Brilliant tent. Our friends got one and our husbands took it on Scout camp (while we were at cub camp) They found it really roomy and although it rained it withstood the weather well. So we bought one and used it on the next Scout camp. We had both pitched before the Scouts had got one of their Vangos up. Have now used it about 4 times and it gets easier with use.

We love the sewn in groundsheet and the fact that you can leave everything together and so pitch in about 15 minutes. The Scout group have now bought another two of these for 2011 as we have a big camp coming up and need sleeping accommodation for more adults.

It easily accommodates our two camp beds and our lidded boxes which double up as clothes storage and bedside tables. Front area accommodates chairs and a table and also the cooking equipment although we don't cook inside.

I bought this tent at the beginning of this year and we have used it three times so far. It is by far the easiest tent I have ever had and I've had a few! Myself and my 10yr old son can pitch this tent in less than 15 mins. With only 3 poles that are all the same there is no trying to work out which pole goes where. With sewn in groundsheet and a bedroom area that can be left in situ, it is pretty much done with 3 poles and a few pegs.

The bedroom is very spacious and has a large vent in the rear. Has good head room and due to the bedroom end of the tent being black it keeps the bedroom darker than most.

The living area is also spacious, due to the tunnel shape the sides are pretty straight which means no wasted space. The windows are a nice feature as is the side vent. My only issue with this tent is that when it is raining if you use the side door the water pours in. The front door is a little better.

The sewn in groundsheet keeps it nice and warm as well as making pitching quick and easy.

We used it for a bit of touring this year, we did 4 sites in 10 days so had to pitch and pack several times. This tent made it easy!

I upgraded this to this tent from a 3 man tent and I was surprised at how large it was. The sleeping area is large with a vent to the rear. The living area is also large with 2 windows and vent to side and opening to side and front the front can be turned into an awning with two poles and guy ropes provided. When we used it it rained heavily for 24 hours and the wind was bad the tent never leaked and it only lost it shape a little while until the wind stopped. It was very easy to put up and take down it all fitted into the one bag which had compression straps on to make the bag compact and secure.

We have just bought this tent recently and I must say it is probably one of the easiest tents I have ever erected.Only three poles, and with the groundsheet sewn in, we put it up in about twenty minutes.Simple to transport with everything coming in one bag. Plenty of room in the bedroom and loads of space in the living area.
