2 Reviews of the Massif 200
By: Pogostick Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2011 Rating:
The tent was sturdy, reasonably easy to erect. Porch unusable, i.E. Leaving in the rain and putting your shoes on is not an option whilst remaining under cover. The tent leaked badly in british weather, not torrential rain but heavy rain (pooling on roof of the dome, no run-off, then dripping though - despite additional waterproofing after a first night failure).

The Massif 200 is a geodesic single skin tent.
As there seems to be a lack of reviews I will do my best at a longer one here.
I have just bought a Massif 200 at a very good price. I decided to buy it as I wanted a tent that could go up quickly in the rain; my great bomb proof Gelert Rocky 2 is pitched inner tent first.
My first impressions of the tent are that is pretty well made and an interesting design that makes good use of space.I have yet to test it in bad weather conditions, when I do I will update this post.
First of all its good points.
After putting it up a couple of times I find it quick and easy to pitch; it has colour coded poles and good instructions that help.
It is a fairly rigid structure that seems very stable when pegged out; it would be possible to use this tent in good weather without being pegged out, with just your gear weighing it down to the ground.
Because it is a single skin tent, inside seems very spacious with all the dimensions being usable.2 people should easily fit in, no problem. The sleeping compartment is divided from the small porch area by a mesh door. The porch area is very small but has an attachable ground sheet.
There is a small air vent flap at the rear of the tent.
The tent goes up in one, the sewn in groundsheet in the living area seems to be of good quality.
Bad points.
At the price that you can pick these up at it would be harsh to be to critical.Having said that there are some points you should be aware of.
As with any budget tent, the tent pegs are useless and should be upgraded.
As this is a single skin tent, the flysheet is very thin and is pretty much see through at times, so beware with the torch at bedtime! Having said that, this also means that you can see pretty well at dusk without the need for a torch so swings and roundabouts. Won't bother me in the morning as I wake up early, but could annoy some. This may also mean that its a little cooler than some tents. Can't comment on condensation issues yet.
Can't comment on its waterproof qualities yet, but will be proofing it before I go out in earnest, as I always would recommend with any tent. Lacks a hanging point for a light and only has one small pocket in the sleeping compartment. The small porch is only usable for storing boots and maybe a small stove etc. The big sleeping compartment makes up for this though.
Verdict.
Actually I really like this tent (never thought i'd say that about a single skin festival tent)
Yes it has a few drawbacks that will not suit all, but has some advantages as well. I think the design looks good and gives a good amount of space. The quality seems pretty good for a festival tent. For summer use it should suit nicely.
You can pick these up quite cheaply if you scour the interweb!
