10 Reviews of the Ventura 400

Sublime tent.
Though discontinued, I'm pretty sure they are still available here and there which makes them probably the only family sized tent still around with a five year guarantee on the poles. The bedrooms are the darkest I've seen on any tent and have both mosquito screen and complete doors. Conversely the living space is the lightest I've seen with the pale grey flysheet, reflective sewn-in groundsheet and extensively windowed front. There are hanging points in both bedrooms and in the living space for lighting and the now-ubiquitous zip opening for a hookup. Between the bedrooms there is a nice column of storage pockets. As separate pods, you cannot make the bedrooms into one big room, though you can take one out to greatly increase the living space (space for a bike!)
Being a three pole tunnel tent means two things; One, only an airbeam or teepee is easier to put up and two, a cross or front-on wind can require some creative guyroping, though the powerflex poles mean you are never going to need to worry about a shattered pole wrecking your flysheet.
We don't really use the awning poles but they are there for those who do, the side doors with mosquito screen we find very useful both for ventilating the tent when there are midges about but also having a door on three sides mean a rain sheltered exit can usually be found.
Only a brow pole on one of the side doors in case of heavy rain could improve this otherwise perfect tent. It's a design classic and a great shame it will soon be impossible to buy one.

Great tent suited us, only downside is no fly sheet to the front door, and its draughty as it doesn't zip at the bottom, would love to find a canopy to extend living area, we had rain and strong winds, but stayed dry.
It was easy to put up and take down did take two of us though. We even managed to get it back in the bag.

Really great little tent. Brought this secondhand for my teenage daughter and 2 friends to join us for a week in Newquay this August and must say we were really impressed, a doddle to erect and large enough bedroom pods to fit a queensized airbed in one. We brought a gelert carpet which fitted quite well and made the tent really cosy. Also fitted a Kyham Faro awning on the front (as we couldn't source one for this tent specifically)to give them a bit more space for eating etc and this worked really well too. All in all a light and airy tent that withstood some fierce winds and heavy rain, the poles flexed so much I was sure they would snap or splinter but they didn't.

I love this tent there are only two of us 1 adult, 1 child plus a little dog, it is easy to pitch, bedrooms are a great size as the back of the tent is dark blue the bedroom pods keep out the morning sun, the front of the tent is light grey with great windows and great hight so feels light and roomy. The only thing wrong is wish I could get something to go over one or both of the doors to help keep the rain out.

Okay.Having read other ratings on here I have to say I'm surprised! I really don't rate this tent at all! Apart from it being easy to put up!
I had a huge condensation problem as there are no vents! The condensation 'rained' in on us all night and kept everyone awake!
Yes the bedrooms stayed dry because they were double lined, but the living area was soaked, as were all of our things! It ruined our weekend! Neighbouring tents were bone dry!
I really wouldn't recommend this tent to anyone!

This our second year with this tent, we find it warm and watertight. The only gripe is that the sleeping areas are not big enough for us. We have no kids, just the wife and myself and wish that the sleeping area went the full width with possibly a zipped in divider like most tents of this category. We only use one half of the sleeping area to sleep in, the other side we do not put up but use the space to store the clothes and pots and pans etc.
The thing that attracted us to this tent was the wide vision from inside. It is nice to have a good view out on a rainy day and this tent does the job. It has not yet been 'put through the mill' in a real gale force wind but has seen us through some heavy downpours.
We shall keep this tent until a better model appears. This is our 4th Sunncamp tent, I think they are well made and of good quality. Having said that, we lost our last tent, an Evolution 400 to gales and heavy rain in Easter 2008 when three poles split due to a broken guy line. We still have the tent but have been unable to track down any replacement poles for it.

Great Tent Easy to erect , plenty of room for 2adults,used in UK & France last year no leaks or drafts due to complete sewn in groundsheet. Light & airy ideal for touring not to heavy when loaded with everything else but the kitchen sink.RECOMMENDED.

Owned the earlier model and liked it , bought this as I liked the extra windows, important if it rains you are able to see out clearly, there is also the fitted floor from back to front good improvement on the last model, I am a pensioner and can put this tent up on my own, if windy you really need two to take it down as I found out recently. Would recommend this tent to anyone especially for families.

This tent is fantastic and stood up to lots of wind and rain whilst tents near us were collapsing. It is very light and airy with 3 clear panels at the front that can be opened up into a porch
The SIG makes a big difference and there is plenty of space,we used it for 2 adults and it was very roomy

I really like this tent because it has a feeling of space in the living area, both me and my husband are tall (5'9 and 5'11) and some tents we looked at felt really cramped. This one has large windows and feels very light and airy inside. There are two bedroom pods, each one fits a double air bed. When we put it up first time it was pouring with rain so we had to do it quick. It was really easy with everything colour coded even I couldn't go wrong (Ive never put a tent up before). We felt we had enough space for two adults, 10 year old daughter and a large golden retriever.
I wish they made a separate canopy for it though, as I don't like to have the tent fully open to insects. Even so, I would recommend the tent, and it's converted me into a camper.
