A beautiful setting, right on the river and in the heart of Exmoor. I had a lovely 2 hour walk right from the campsite. Very quiet site at night (which is what we were looking for) Staff were very friendly and helpful. The shop is overpriced but as people have said the nearest shop is a long way so they have a captive audience and the bacon and egg baguettes were wonderful. A great base for touring. Facilities were ok, if a bit limited (two showers) but if you can wait until evening, you'll have no problem. Very children orientated, all of whom seemed to be having a great time. Horse riding available from the site, which my friend did and loved.

This site provided us with our first experience of 'real camping' having only camped in our garden previously - we were not disappointed!
Cloud Farm is at the end of a single-track lane in a very picturesque valley where a stream runs besides the three fields used for camping. The owners are very friendly and there are no set pitches which adds to the relaxed ambience.
Real camp fires are permitted - stones are provided to make a circle and kindling and logs can be bought at the site shop (as well as delicious cakes.). Plenty of hot water in the showers - but only a small sink area for washing up. The facilities were kept very clean and as we stayed for a weekend in the middle of June we did not experience any queuing to use the facilities.
We were also fortunate with the weather and our children even swam in the river - there are a couple of deeper pools if you cross the river using the campsite footbridge and turn left, up the valley, for about 15 minutes. A recommended site and we hope to stay here again.

Stayed here for 2 nights (Sat and Sun) at the beginning of July. When we arrived on Saturday afternoon the site was already almost full - tents everywhere.
We pitched in one of the further fields which was quiet - only wide enough for one row of tents so only neighbours were in front and behind. Compared to the main fields our spot was very peaceful - seemed like another campsite walking to the toilet block!
Ah yes the toilets / showers - my main complaint about the site is these - for such a busy site there are nowhere near enough - only 2 showers each (gents and ladies), 2 sinks in the ladies and only 1 sink in the mens. There must be around 250 people on the site at peak times, so more are needed. Only 1 washing up sink too - we did all ours at the tent.
Other thing worth noting is the only water point is at the top of the site with the other facilities, so if you are camping in a further field it is a bit of a slog to fill up.
These gripes aside the location is great - by the river and it was lovely to have an open fire (need one to keep the midges off!) - easy to see why it is a popular spot and I don't think any negative comments will keep campers away. But given the cost (7.50 a night each) I would hope they could stretch to a few more showers soon.

We placed our bets on this wonderfully located and already well documented campsite. With its beautiful riverside location festooned with surrounding heather loaded hills Cloud Farm is most definitely straight out of the Lorna Doone.
Despite the proximity to the water the site is most definitely child friendly with tent pitches bordered by sturdy fencing. Facilities are as good as described with a number of us enjoying a relaxing start to the day on the back of the excellent farm produced 'full English'. In fact, one could consider Cloud Farm for 'minimalist camping' with the twee camp shop and cafe offering much providence whilst a short bike ride down the valley to villages towards Simonsbath affords you a choice of two riverside pubs, one, the Rockford Inn at Brendon, is complete with its very own microbrewery. So you could reasonably eat out for every meal but then you would miss out on the opportunity to gather round your own camp fire, which the owners encourage, grilling snags or fillets.
So what could possibly be wrong with this? Well as many campers know the appearance of a well located and equipped campsite in guides that adorn high street bookshops leads to one thing - popularity. Good for the owner not so good if you desire a get away from it or 'them' all. Whilst we fully enjoyed our stay during a sunny July weekend some readers may prefer a less busy site with a greater distance between you and your neighbours. In addition at close to 80% capacity the two showers, one sink and one loo for the chaps were at full stretch. That being said Cloud Farm is spectacularly set and very well looked after by the owners. These little frustrations are the things that you take on knowingly with your campers gambling hat on. We'll be back but perhaps during the lower season.

Cloud Farm is set in beautiful surroundings with many scenic walks nearby. The site itself was quite hard to get to due to the very steep hills (which had it's toll on our brakes!), but the spectacular views made up for this.
A large site with a number of fields which can cater for a high volume of tents and caravans. Only problem we found was that all the good pitches were taken when we arrived so it was a long trek to the toilet block. In total there were only 2 showers for women and 2 for men, with a total of 4 toilets for each gender. The showers did not have doors, just plastic flaps which were not lockable or very private.
When we went away it was sunny for the first night and we had very heavy rain for the rest of our stay. A quaint river flows gently through the centre of the site. Overnight, due to the heavy rain, the river became very forceful and was level with the edge of the bank. At 3am in the morning in the pitch black a group of campers woke up my party as they were concerned the river as going to burst its banks. It was a scene of panic and many campers were trying their best to gather personal belongings and walk through very deep muddy water (this was about a foot deep in some areas) to safety at the top of the hill near the cafe. We didn't have time to take down our tents, we had to leave them behind. A group of campers knocked on the site owner's door to advise how dangerous the river was and that people maybe trapped on fields closest to the river. The owner told us that the river wouldn't flood. The owner did walk down to check that people were okay after many campers had to raise their concerns. The owner did eventually allow campers to spend the rest o the night indoors in one room to keep warm as the temperature was very cold, this was after we were first told to return to our tents!
Some of the fields were very flooded and about a dozen campers tents were flooded with water including their sleeping quarters.
In the morning we checked out tents (as expected them to be halfway down the river) and we were lucky our tents were okay.
It was a shame that the flood occurred as the site has good potential and offers horse riding for an extra charge. Water is limited as the taps are spring fed, there are many signs on the site to notify visitors of this
Overall, fantastic views and walks, but remember to take some wellies!
Nearby are the seaside towns of Ilfracombe and Combe Martin. Beautiful towns with great pubs overlooking the sea, all of which served very good food. A must for all photographers!

I mostly agree with all that has previously been written by other campers. Yes, it is a spectacular location, however, without the natural resources, the campsite itself would be very unspectacular. I have just re-read all the reviews going back four years and a constant theme is the quality of the toilet/shower facilities. The age and the poor design of the toilet/shower facilities means that it is difficult, if not impossible, to give them a semblance of cleanliness, especially when the weather is wet. All has been described in previous reviews.

An absolute gem of a campsite. I took along my boyfriend who had never been 'proper' camping before (he had been to festivals and the like!) so I was a little apprehensive about whether he would enjoy it. Thankfully, Cloud Farm was such a wonderful place that we will be going again!
It is a little out of the way, and quite difficult to get to so don't forget the map but it is well worth it. The walks around the campsite are extensive and it pays to go off the beaten track as you can discover so much more.
The shower and laundry facilities are clean and well equipped. There is even a little shop that is sells food, drink (including alcohol) and camping supplies. The food choice is a bit limited and quite pricey but there is no other shop nearby. There is a pub that sells food over the bridge but that gets very busy with coach tours.
A word of warning though - you can't book pitches so during the summer it gets incredibly busy so arrive as early as you can to ensure you get a pitch. We managed to get one next to the stream, and although the site was very busy with families, young children and dogs, by about 9pm it was quiet. They also allow campfires!
If you want a bit of nightlife or excitement then I would say this place isn't for you but if you want a relaxing break where you can either go for walks or chill out next to (or in) the stream, then definitely would recommend this site!

We headed down to Exmoor this week to squeeze the last drops out of my eight year old's summer holiday. It was great.
The site itself is strung out along the valley floor very close to the tumbling river so you get a beautiful background sound to your camping. I can see that it could get boggy in the wet but for us it was brilliant. Beautiful setting, fantastic to be able to have a campfire (stones provided and firewood and kindling on sale).
With the rotten weather we'd been having and the end of the hols it was pretty quiet but I could see that when busy the toilet and shower facilities might be under pressure. I also only found two washing up basins, but I didn't look very hard and was very impressed by the washer / drier facilities and the fridge for camper use. A few reviews here have griped about the shop and even my son remarked on the price of his drink but, to be fair, Cloud farm is miles from anywhere. You have to drive at least 20 minutes to find a food shop so I felt fine about buying a few essentials at the shop. If you have to shop for everything here then it's going to hurt, but if you're that unprepared then going to somewhere so remote may not be such a good idea anyway. I certainly didn't feel like I was being exploited and was impressed by the range of stuff the shop carried – it's not every site shop that offers a range of wines and beers, fresh coffee and hot breakfasts.
The long entrance track is pitted so drive carefully and slowly but it's perfectly manageable – again I thought the gripes about this were unfair. It is a remote farm.
There are beautiful walks straight out of the campsite and the prospect of horse riding as well means that we'll be back with the whole family.

Well I just want to add a positive review.
We stayed here for a long weekend early august and it didn't stop raining however we still had a fab time. It does get very muddy, wellies are an absolute must and the shop is pricey (the cakes are lovely though!) but we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
The kids loved the pony ride and the river and the absolute freedom to run around.
The showers were fab - not the usual dribble and also lovely and hot. Loos were cleaned twice a day and wash up area was sheltered.
The only thing that would put me off is the weather and being right on the edge of the moor, if it's bad weather you're really gonna get it! Oh and make sure you pitch on the flat - we were on a slope, not a good idea! However I would return.
With the access not good for caravans or motor homes.
