 Now my other half is German and after 4 years of having Spritie the caravan and doing things in the UK we decided to go to Northern Germany to the Wattenmeer.
After much hunting around we found this site in Nordstrand, which seemed interesting.
The site takes tents, caravans and motorhomes with hard standing and grass pitches. Also EHU the standard external blue plug you get in the UK (I did by a converter just in case).
It feels like a cross between a certified site/location and a huge back garden but well looked after, with hedges, trees and a bbq area.
Parking is a bit tight but behind the site and between the sea dyke is a lane with parking for cars.
There is a pot washing area which is spotless with plenty of hot water. Next to that is the washer and dryer - you'll need a few euro's for them. There is also a circular beer fridge where campers can keep milk etc cold, just put a sticker on your bag.
Toilets are also very clean, at 11am everyday the loos are closed to ensure they are up to the required level. The showers are great but are the push button on type things. Correct temperature and with a fair bit of pressure behind them.
There is a little playground for the kids more suited for the 1 to 8 year range than my 9 to 11 year olds!
Check the campsite noticeboard for trips and activities that you can sign up for.
5 minutes walk towards the little harbour is a little cafe/imbiss where you can get wurst, pommes and beer (sausages, chips and beer). They also had a dead anutie (hot chocolate with rum and whipped cream on top).
At the windmill (you can't miss it) is a little cafe and bakery. Fresh bread and pastries are avaiable all week including Sunday. You can also get breakfast and meals there.
A couple of supermarkets 7 and 10 minutes drive away for all the usual stuff.
There is a bit of a beach on the island but if you need something larger you my have to travel.
There is a swimming pool on the north end of the island which worked out at 6 euro's for the family for 3 hours (supposed to be one and half hours but it's very relaxed). Two small pools one which is a cross between a very large hot tub and bubble massage pool.
Overall a nice relaxing site however the weather wasn't great. High winds and rain (24 hours after the uk got it) and I was in a very grumpy mood because of that! It did improve especially after we crossed over into Denmark on the way home!
Looking back, taking the weather out of the equation, it's a relaxed, clean and efficient. The owners are helpful and proud of the site and where they live.
We used the Harwich to Esbjerg route which gave us a driving time of 2 to 3 hours to Northern Germany.
