Dog-friendly Platinum Pennant AA 5-star campsite 1 mile from Hadrian`s Wall, Northumberland. Nestled in an idyllic rural location above the ‘Centre of Britain` town of Haltwhistle in Northumberland, only 1 mile from the Northumberland International Dark Skies Park.
Platinum rated 5-star Northumberland campsite offering a mix of family-friendly accommodation including 17 dog friendly Wigwam cabins (10 Running Water, 3 Big Chief & 4 Wee Brave) many with outdoor hot tubs and en-suite WCs. Whilst most guests do bring their own we offer linen packs and croc boxes for hire.
For tents, touring caravans, motorhomes / campervans there are 10 large grass tent pitches with electric, 13 caravan/ motorhome as hard-standing pitches, most of them fully serviced, and a luxury 3-bedroom lodge with private decking and outdoor hot tub.
We welcome dogs free of charge on our touring pitches.
Our 5-star amenity block has underfloor heating, unisex sauna available for private hire, laundry room, washing up area, family/accessible bathroom and a further 2 baths within the ladies amenities.
There is also an indoor campers kitchen with vending machines and information room.
8 luxury Castle Pod glamping pods exclusively for adults, rated Platinum by the AA, with everything you need for a romantic glamping experience. Fully equipped with en-suite shower room, double bed, kitchenette with microwave, hob, kettle, toaster and coffee machine, all you need is your food! The cosy lounge area has dining table, sofa, smart TV and wood burning stove. There is a covered veranda. Outdoors is a spacious furnished private patio with hot tub, fire pit and BBQ. Available to hire for 2 adults. Two Castle pods are dog friendly and one is wheelchair accessible.

As a child-friendly campsite children can enjoy our outdoor playground and visit our petting farm to meet our piglets Chilli and Ginger, alpacas, Coco the donkey, Robin our Shetland pony, goats, chickens, guinea pigs and rabbits. Animal feeding sessions held twice daily.

We offer fire pits for hire on both our touring and glamping pitches as well as gas and charcoal BBQs.
We have an indoor BBQ hut for hire seating up to 20 people.
Many take-aways in Haltwhistle deliver to the entrance for a small fee and there are a variety of local pubs including The Greenhead Hotel and Twice Brewed.
The Milecastle Inn is a 10-minute walk and serves great food and real Northumberland ales. The inside of the pub is small and therefore not dog friendly but has a large beer garden with great views.
As well as short breaks Herding Hill Farm is ideal for holidays being just an hours drive from the Lake District, Kielder Water, Scottish borders, Carlisle, Newcastle, North Pennines and the spectacular Northumberland coastline.
Huge variety of walks along the Roman Wall direct from site, as well as interesting Roman sites such as the Roman Army Museum, Housesteads, Vindoland and Birdoswald forts.
The AD122 Hadrians Wall bus stops at our Hadrians Wall campsite and visits all the major attractions along the wall between Haltwhistle and Hexham. The bus is dog friendly and perfect for combining with walks to Walltown Quarry, Steel Rigg or Sycamore Gap.
Cawfields Quarry is a Dark Sky Discovery Site just 15 minutes walk and stargazing from the comfort of your own touring pitch, glamping pod or hot tub on our Northumberland campsite is amazing. We offer star gazing kits for hire and there are fabulous experiences a short drive with Twice Brewed Stargazing.
Nearby Attractions
We are fortunate to have many local attractions a short drive and a huge variety of walks from the campsite.
Hadrian`s Wall attractions include Housesteads, Vindolanda and Birdoswald Roman Forts and the Roman Army Museum. Most guests walk to see the most famous tree in the world at Sycamore Gap, an easy and delightful walk.
Northumberland National Park and National Landscape Discovery Centre at the Sill is a short drive, bus or walk away. The National Park is an International Dark Sky Park and Twice Brewed Stargazing, 5 minutes drive, hold regular stargazing events.
The fabulous Kielder Observatory is about an hours drive. Kielder Water & Forest are perfect for water sports, cycling and walking.
Guests can enjoy Haltwhistle Outdoor Swimming Pool, Talkin Tarn and Walby Farm Park as well as the lovely towns of Hexham and Corbridge.
Within a short drive you will find the glorious landscapes of North Pennines, Lake District National Park and Northumberland Coast and Castles
If you are towing a caravan please do not follow your Sat Nav as this may take you up Shield Hill from Haltwhistle, which is extremely steep for a caravan.
Travelling from the east on the A69 continue past Haltwhistle and after approximately 3 miles you will see a right turn to Greenhead. After 100 meters turn right at the junction of the B6318 and after 3 miles you will then pick up our brown tourist sign at the Milecastle Inn.
From the West also take the Greenhead turn off the A69.
