Walkmill is a secluded and peaceful location in a private setting next to the banks of the River Coquet for enthusiastic individuals who enjoy the countryside and wish to explore its virtues.
Set in 10.5 acres of Northumberland countryside, this quiet and surreal small holding surrounded by the River Coquet is amongst some idyllic woodland walks with nearby access to public footpaths including the Northumberland Coastal Path and a 5 minutes drive from Warkworth Castle and fabulous beaches.
Walkmill is a hideaway site that offers a fantastic vacation with unprecedented privacy and space and the opportunity to spot an abundance of wildlife both on site and in close proximity including otters, owls, deer, kestrels, buzzards, herons, king-fishers, pheasants, hares, rabbits, swans and not forgetting the salmon and trout. On a clear night, the stars are amazing.
Think of us as an almost Wild Campsite, we offer limited but clean facilities, peace and tranquility and open space. Whilst we are a Riverside location, the River bank at Walkmill is a Natural England SSSI with fishing rights. There is no access to the river from our campsite. Our boundary is marked by a top wire fenceline which must be respected at all times.
Over the last 18 months we have planted in excess of 1000 tree saplings as part of the Great Northumberland Forest scheme which has helped to define our pitches and create some woodland corridors which will be exciting to watch develop over the next few years. The meadow that develops late spring and early summer helps to create the special ambiance of our site.
Our spacious tent pitches are located at the bottom of a grass slope in the camping field. All our tent pitches are without electric hook ups.
Near to the main property at Walkmill we have well spaced touring pitches available with electric hook ups. For those tourers or Motorhomes who prefer to be off grid you have the option of spacious pitches located in the camping field but at the top so you don`t have to worry about grass slopes. The farm track down to the site is best suited to caravans pulled by 4WD or cars with bigger engine capacity.
Our onsite static caravan acts as facilities primarily for tents or those tourers /campervans who don`t have bathroom facilities. We have 1 shower in here and 2 toilets. There are also 2 additional flushable toilets in wooden huts adjacent to the main facilities. Last year we introduced and Eco-Shower to provide a refreshing alternative for guests. This proved very popular and the shower huts can also be used by guests who have their own portable showers.
Over the last couple of years, we have introduced a mini shop selling local produce and some essentials. The facilities have a fridge/freezer available for guests and electric charging points for phones.
You can hire portable toilets, firepits and cooking tripods and we have wood, Hotmax & kindling available to buy on site.
Dogs are welcome on site but we ask that they are kept on a lead at all times.

A beautiful coastline to explore. Our closest beaches are Warkworth & Alnmouth. Further north the Sugar Sands at Longhoughton and Embleton Bay. To the South, Amblelinks, Hauxley,Druridge Bay and Cresswell.
Stage 1 of the Coastal Path Cresswell to Warkworth is 10.5 miles or 13 miles direct to the Campsite. As a guide it took me 5.5hrs to do this section including refreshment breaks.
From the top of our farm track it is a pleasant 30-40 minute walk to Warkworth Castle, which can take in the Riverside path by the Hermitage.
We are an ideal base to explore all that our beautiful county has to offer. A 10minute drive from Alnwick or Amble and only a 30 minute drive to the village of Rothbury (Cragside) and the Simonside Hills, Thrunton Woods etc. Alnmouth Station is 10mins away if you fancy a day trip to Edinburgh or Newcastle. A favourite of mine is Howick Hall and Gardens and why not take a trip around Coquet Island with Puffin Cruises in Amble.
Please DO NOT USE SATNAV to find us! Our postcode NE65 9AJ works with GoogleMaps but make sure you come through Warkworth with the Castle on your left. Do not take a shortcut down Watershaugh Road in Warkworth(large ford at the bottom)or go down a road signposted Morwick Mill.
From the A1068 Coastal Route, turn 1st left after the bridge leaving Warkworth or turn right before you cross the River Coquet into Warkworth if you`re heading South from Alnmouth.
Follow the road up and over `level crossing` and take 1st left after level crossing for Guyzance/Brotherwick.
Go past Brotherwick farm & turn next left at the bend(Coquet Moorhouse) go over railway bridge.
Immediately after bridge turn right which is signposted to Walkmill and follow the farm track for 0.5 mile down to Walkmill. We cannot be seen from the road.
